I have a 05 XB9SX and my fan blade has come off of the shaft. What I need to know is how is it retained to the shaft? The motor still runs but the blade/hub is not turing due to the fan being off of the shaft so......... I am going to pull the tail section and the shock so I can get it off but want to know what I will need to secure the fan to the shaft? I want to ride this weekend and I am hoping that someone has a knowledge of how the fan is constructed. Thank you for any help, Bart |

That should be covered under warranty. I wouldn't mess with it if it is. |

I understand it is under warranty but I don't want my bike down for and month, not to mention I want to ride this weekend. I have the fan blade/hub off now but I am looking for a close up of the outside of the fan blade and this post by Buelltroll http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/124703.html is the best I have found. What is the "star" around the center of the shaft? The "star" is missing from the fan. I believe that this is where the problem started. If I can find out what the star is then I will go to the hardware store and get a replacement/substitute and some JB Weld (or something similar) and secure the fan to the shaft. Thanks, Bart |

I can tell you that the "star" shaped piece you are refering to is not a seperate part. That piece is included with the whole fan assembly in the parts book. I was trying to look up a part number for you and it does not list one for the "star" piece, only the whole assembly. Sorry I couln't help. |

I really do appreciate you trying. I think that the star is a type of speed nut that is pressed into place so......... I went to the local hardware store and picked up a variety of speed nuts (square and round). I also picked up "Perma Poxy". I need to press the fan back into place then apply the nut and a TINY bit of epoxy. I think the whole reason that this happened was that the fan was riding up against the grille and eventually knocked star out of place. Which eventually allowed the fan to come off of the shaft. Thank you again, Bart |
