i have a 2000 x1, and where tha exhaust meets the header there is damage..on both the exhaust and the header. the metal "tabs" are shredded up quite a bit. i know i could temporarily fix it with a metal pipe to pipe clamp, but i was curious if any of yall have had this problem? i wouldnt really trust a metal clamp for too long.that and i'm afraid if any more metal comes off it might shoot out the exhaust and puncture my tire.. yall have any idea about how much a new header is? or a way i can fix this until i have enough money to replace both parts? thanx..prez

Both exhaust and also header?
did you find a curb?

Perhaps we could be more helpful if you posted some pics?

They show up all the time on that one auction site, X1 headers seem to go for more since everyone wants them, the o2 bung is useful on all applications, not just the injected models.

Prez,
When you say exhaust to header, are you saying header to muffler? If so there is a S.Steel wrap you can use,is about 4inches long 3 bolts on the bottom works as a clamp. I think I got it at NAPA. Had a persistant leak at collecter to muffler, problem solved.........Charlie

ya charlie that's what i meant..and thanx.. i actually had a few ppl respond to my classified add too..so i might just get a new set..thanx for the help..

and nate..no, no curb, just time i guess.. it's still pretty low mileage..about 11.5k.. so i dunno.. just dont want any metal coming off and slicing my brand new tire open..

thanx for the responses fellas.. prez

i posted about this in another thread..but here goes,, the guy i bought my bike from said that it has the race kit.. my ecm says "for race use only"..so i assume he wasnt lying to me..lol..
is there a difference in the stock vs. race header? if so, what are the differences..and would putting a stock one back on be too disadvantageous? thanx..prez

The race header on the tubers was a big deal. Much more of a performance gain than the race kit on the XB's. Does your header collecter point to the rear of the bike or stop in front of the motor and point toward's the ground. The one that point's to the rear is the race header.........Charlie

hey charlie.. when you say the collector, do you mean where the 2 pipes join into one? if so, mine join together right b4 the muffler on the underside of my bike.. thanx..prez

Ok, so if I am reading that right, you have 2 seperate pipes, that make the elbow, them merge in one collector, UNDER teh motor, and it points to the rear..even without the muffler or any hardware there...

IF that is the case, then yeah, you have a race header...

ALSO , the race header has a different mount than the stock header. It will have a "shoe" that bolts to the exhuast hangar, and the shoe holds the header up via clamp...

Not sure what muffler you have but if it has an elbow pipe to it (front) then you have the stock header............Charlie
