Today I was enroute from Tampa to Orlando and came upon a traffic backup that was apparently bad enough that the cops let people know a few miles ahead of time on a lighted sign that there was a bad accident. Upon coming to the highway parking lot, I decided to follow another bike (GSXR) that was in front of me to ride the shoulder at about 25 MPH. Well, I guess we werent the only ones who thought about riding the shoulder, because even tractor trailers were making it an additional lane. Which meant that even the shoulder had a pile up. Then I though 'but I'm on the ULY -- so I can go native if I want to and go on the dirt next the shoulder'. I don't think I would have done it on any other bike I have, but I figured the 'adventure' part of the 'sportbike' designation of this bike needed exploring. Cagers I'm sure were upset that I wasn't waiting in line, but then they should be upset -- THERE NOT ON ONE |

It's a cool ride for sure! Hopefully the cops didn't say much as it was not like your average slowdown that you were splitting lanes in! It was a total closure (assuming it was the 2 tractor trailer plus a pick-up one on I-4) at the other end of it. Call me optimistic, but I'm thinking you were actually helping to eliminate some of the congestion by getting out of it. |

I've done that trick before, and had tractor trailers pull over to try and block me from getting by as they honked at me. Didn't stop me though. |

The funny part was when the trucks were also driving on the shoulder, thinking they were blocking more traffic, only to see Orange Thunder go around and keep on making it to the front. The police were only at the front trying to help take apart the mess of trucks that decided to kiss the concrete walls with the little pickup. I figure I made for a little less traffic sitting there for hours and I was going relatively slow (25-30) with brakes covered for just some cagers antics. |

And you gotta figure, the only way the cops are going to catch you in a jam up like that is if they are on a bike too. Their police cars aren't took good at getting through traffic jams. The radio is, but of course, it has no idea where you're going. |
