Just ordered some new Traction Grips for the Firebolt. Do they come with end caps? It says that removal of the end caps are necessary to install the new grips. I am missing one end cap on the old stock grips and want to know is this a separate part # or will new ones be included with the new set of grips? |

Not included, the Traction grips also do not have holes in the ends, hence the reason it says that you need to remove them. |

Does this mean I don't need the end caps then? |

Dont have to run them, strictly personal preference. If you want the caps, you will need to cut a hole in the end of the grips. |

You can order individual caps from Daves (sponsor here) and cut holes in the end of the grips. That's what I did. or you can just eliminate them all together. The end caps just keep the end of the bars from getting torn up if ya lay it down, or do other stupid chit like I seem to keep doing. The end caps are like $2.50 or something. Cheap protection for the unexpected. |

Thanks for all the helpful info. I think I'll do without the end caps for now if I don't really need them. How is the feel of the traction grips over stock? |

I bought some of the gel grips on ebay, the ones you always see when you search "Buell" they have holes in the end with caps... they work great, and are soft on the hands.. I will be using those on my new crossroads I am hoping to win on ebay! Woo Hoo!! |

I have traction grips on my XB9R. Actually, I bought the bike with them already installed, and after my low-side, I had to replace the right grip and handlebar. The caps do have to be removed on your handlebars, but it's no biggie. |

The traction grips are the right shape for comfort. They fit the hand just right. I have bar end mirrors so it was necessary to cut out the ends of the grips. I used one of those saw type kitchen tools used to cut out pumkins, easy and neat. |

I used one of those saw type kitchen tools used to cut out pumpkins Wish I had thought of that!!! Traction grips with bar-end mirrors here too. I used an xacto blade to roughly trim the hole, then used a soldering iron to melt the cut edges just right. |

The traction grips are quite nice indeed. The only downside is that they wear much faster. I was thinking of machining bar ends for fun, and was planning on using an OLFA circle cutter that I have laying around. |

I test rode the Uly that has the stock grips on it. My bike has the Traction grips. All I can say is I hate those stock grips. The traction grips are a whole lot more comfortable. |

Traction grips with bar-end mirrors here too. It's a simple equation: Traction grips = very comfortable Stock grips = not comfortable You'll be very happy with your purchase. Best upgrade for your bike under $20 bucks guaranteed! |

I have the traction grips with the Cityx handguards and bar ends and I carved the crap out of the end of the right one in order to get the throttle to work right. They feel great, but don't look so hot. I will do a better job next time. But I'd get 'em again. |

I put them on my cityX when I put the crossroads bars on. I love them. They have a nice form to them, very nice on the hands. I had to cut the ends to facilitate the bar end mirrors. The throttle grip needed a little extra trimming due to it catching on the end of the bar and sticking. |

I guess I am the only one that thinks the shape of them s__ks. I put them on my XB9S and took them off after 2 weeks. I went back to the stock ones and never felt better. Mike Long Island, NY 06 XB12X Black of course |

Maybe it's got something to do with hand size. Those with dainty hands, prefer the narrower stock grips? Maybe? |

Is the right one coming with " cable wheel" ? The right grip comes with a new throttle tube (I guess that's what you're talking about) pre-installed. |

They look thick (which is good), how would they work over grip heaters? Scott, Not sure. The main problem will be getting the right hand grip off of the throttle tube (it comes pre-glued) without destroying it so you can install the grip heater. Rumor was Buell was supposed to be coming out with heated grips for the Ulysses; I wonder what ever came of that? |

For tailoring rubber grips, freezing them over night helps a lot. You can then use a hacksaw on them for some cuts, and a coarse belt on belt sander will do some real delicate shaping. The belts will even work okay at room temps if the rubber is not too soft. Use a light touch and keep the material moving. That's an old gunsmithing trick. Jack (an old and former gunsmith) |

My bicycle had the same pair of grips on it as the stock Buell grips. I didnt realize there was this much to say about t-grips but they are worth every penny...14.95 to be exact |

I use regular old Galindo sportbike grips but did not like the thin diameter of the stockers so I bought the one inch superbike grips and duct taped the bar to fit them..... |

I have Galindo SBK grips on it now and I hate them... BAck to the stock ones for me, but I may splurge and go for the torque grips. They better freakin' last forever though... |

Question for Ratyson Did you change the clutch cable to put the crossroad ? What about cables rerouting ? Jpxb9, No, I did not change the clutch cable. The rerouting was fairly simple, you just have to be careful not to pinch any of the covers with the plate. In the directions, it tells you to drop the forks down. I did not do this, but as an after thought, I probably should have. The reason is that the clutch cable is kind of jammed in there now and there is a little bit more 'binding' with it now. Not much, but the buell clutch is already a bit harder to pull than other bikes from the get go. If you drop the forks, you can probably re-route the clutch cable in front of the upper tube instead of going over it like I did. I would imagine that this is why they have you drop the forks. The other side with the throttle and wires was no problem at all. Oh, and make sure that you use locktite on the mounting bolts... don't do what I did. I almost ended up with the bars in my hands with no connection to the bike, if you get my drift. |

Jpxb9, I got the third eye bar end mirrors, about $10 each. I did not need any adapters for them. They have 2 different size rubber grommets that slip inside the end of the bar. As you turn the mirror, they squish out and secure it in the bar. I have some pics on my website at russtyson dot com, if you want some closer ones, let me know and I will get some done for you. |

Be careful with the softer grip compounds. While living in San Diego I had a pair of gel pro-grips turn to mush during a lunch stop just from the sun shining on them. Big mess. Had a heck of a time cleaning up my gloves after that. The grips felt GREAT in the show room. Live and learn. |
