I got a question on suspension settings for 03xb9r. My bud has a 03/ xb9r However he has no owners manual for it or the suspension settings. Is it ok to use the settings for a 05 xb9S for his 03xb9r? | |||

Nope. The R model places more weight over the front wheel due to the ergos. | |||

Your manual shouldn't be too far off as starting points. despite all the gnashing of teeth. That's all those charts are, a place to start. if you can get a couple of friends together and set sag properly you will on the right track. http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_0006_sag/ http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_0006_susp/ from there damping is a very fine adjustment so don't go overboard on the adjustments. You can get Owners Manuals for both Lightning and Firebolt right off the Buell site. Go to buell.com and click FAQ at the top right of the screen. The suspension settings for both models can be found in there. | |||

You can use Higbee's chart for the 03XB initial settings BUT I'd recommend using DIRECT measurement of sag, rather than using the lines. 35mm front, 25mm rear is a decent ballpark. Use Higbee's damping guidelines to start with and you will be 50% of the way there. Additional changes to suspension damping, preload should only be made one at a time - and then ridden a LOT before making one more small change. You really have to sneak up slowly on the suspension settings once you're close since so often, suspension response can be mis-interpreted. (Message edited by slaughter on February 07, 2006) | |||

Thanks guys, were trying to get a base line set up somewhat. His settings were pretty jacked when he got the bike. Diablo this chart you posted is for a 05, my friends got a 03xbr9 are they the same even though different years? I kind of assume they are but we all know what assume spells. Thanks | |||

should be really close. Fork tube diameter changed, but not the dynamics of the bike. except for a little less fork flex on the 05 and maybe a small amount of "sticktion" . Like Slaughter and I both said. These are starting points nothing more. these are not a real substitute for a proper sag set-up. | |||
