www.buell.com is showing the Vanson jacket and pants for the Uly. There is also a favorable mini-review in the new American Motorcyclist. Prices seem reasonable: $299 jacket, $269 pants. M |

I must be missing it. I've searched the entire Buell site and don't see any mention of a Ulysses jacket. |

I think they are referring to the XRUJ jacket and XRUP pants? Wish that jacket came in some color other than I didn't see him officer black and gray. |

Eor, even if you were wearing a Fluorescent Orange jacket, had flashing strobe lights, and were launching fireworks every tenth of a mile, some blind, distracted cell phone yakker would pull out in front of you, and claim he didn't see you. Remember, idiots pull out in front of Semis and freight trains and claim they didn't see them, either. |

Maybe the gray is a result of their marketing folks reading our black vs. orange debates. |

I was taking the train downtown once, a car ran into the train. The train was stopped, for some time...the car just drove right into the side. Still, I wear the hiviz Darien...does it help? Who knows. |

There's no telling if it helps because anybody that runs you down will say they didn't see you regardless of what you were wearing. That's why I wear what I like, not what I think others might see. I just assume everyone is trying to run me over. If they can see me, they might be more successful. |

Some pretty compelling statistics from a recent study in New Zealand suggest that a rider wearing a conspicuous helmet [white or lighter color] and reflective clothing are less likely [30% or so] to be injured in a motorcycle crash. Here's a link to the article, if you are interested... http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/content/abstract/328/7444/857 While the wearing of lighter colored clothing did not appear to be a factor in this particular study, I've seen too many riders wearing dark clothing virtually disappear into the background, even when I KNEW they were there and was looking for them. YMMV.... |

A question, perhaps Dave knows; Buell markets a motorcycle that, in general, suits taller riders, then they offer riding gear, that doesn't come in tall sizes??? I'm 6'-5", so I'm used to not having a huge selection, but this is a bit weird. |

One confounding factor they forgot to include is the fact that if you are wearing reflective clothing and riding a motorcycle, chances are good that you are wearing protective gear. Conversely, if you have no reflective stuff on, you are more likely to be wearing street clothes. That would have an impact on injuries. There are even more compelling stats that say motorcycling is more dangerous than riding in a cage. I was nearly killed a couple of times while wearing a white helmet and a blaze orange reflective vest. Both times the driver claimed to not see me in broad daylight riding my bright red Kaw. I wear black and silver reflective trim and a silver helmet now. (Message edited by lowflyer on February 04, 2006) |
