ok, so here's the deal: Where I live, buells (let alone xb's) are rare. The opportunity to actually hear/see first hand what certain mods do is almost non existent. I've heard a sound clip of a Drummer, a spec OPS, and a race kit (although not really comparable in terms of setting, etc). I've been "lurking" here for a month or so, trying to glean what folks are saying about certain pipes/ecm/air filter/drilled air box cover/12 air box/..........and boil it all down to "what I should do". I have to work on a budget. I'm not building a race bike, nor am I into stunting or pulling wheelies/stoppies/burnouts. In the near term, I don't see myself going wild on mods...but I would like to increase performance a bit (across the board) and to change up the sound. I've just put a K&N air filter into it, and I predict a pipe and new ECM at some point in the future. Here's where I need your help/expertise: the sound I'm hoping to achieve is (my best attempt to use the right words here...) is "gnarly / visceral / percussive / crackly". I'm not necessarily looking for a "deep/rumbly" sound. Do any of the pipes available on the market produce this gnarly sound? If so, which ones? I totally understand that my definition/interpretation of the above words may be different than yours.... but given this, can you offer up some thoughts? many thanks! |

Spuds, I put a Vance & Hines 525S CF for a 98 S1 on my 03 9R with just cutting and bending of the supplied mounts. Louder, but not obnoxious. Comparing to my 2000 X1 with a Supertrapp. It IS more Buell than before, but it's not an Oreck. Haven't remounted the chin guard yet, but lost an easy 20 pounds over stock, and the midrange feels better (seat of the pants). I got it at sleazebay, and for $100 to my door, it's awesome! you can see the installed on the ABR site. Many here will tell you NO WAY for CF on the street, but at this price, I had to try it. Oh, I should say, for a raspier sound, the race unit sounds great on a CityX I heard. But for a real turn your head sound, look at the Drummer. Every time Drummerboy starts his I still find my neck bending... (Message edited by Sflabuell on May 26, 2006) |
