I've got about 50lbs of rock climbing gear I want to bag and hang off the front of my Uly. The plan is to make a luggage rack that is held by bolts replacing the screws holding the plastic panel above the headlights. The cast piece behind it looks strong enough to hold the bolts, I'm hoping to do that as well as fit the 16" CeeBailey screen? (Message edited by brat on January 12, 2006) |

For 50lbs you should look at some other way to mount it than just the windshield bolts. That much weight will break those little screws right off, first bump you hit. Brackets to the lower triple tree or something? Be careful as this set up will affect handling and not in a good way. |

There are those one-wheeled trailers for sport bikes. That might be a safer way to do it. http://www.dealsgapunigo.com/ |

Lowflyer, You know of anybody that uses that trailer? Interesting design. |

Shame you never saw the proto Buell tourer with the paniers on the front forks. Looks rediculous; handled spectacularly. Asthetics, at some point, do take precedence. |

That one wheel trailer looks truly weird, great idea! With the panniers, tail bag being behind the back wheel centre I'm trying to get some weight to the front. I'd replace the screws with high tensile bolts, it's more the casting I was worried about. PS I like the flowery bag idea, though I have a black Uly not the gay orange/yellow/taxi color! |

EG, I have never seen one of these particular models in person. I think Uni-Go is out of business at the moment. I have seen some homemade ones that were similar in design, but with far less style. This design looks simple enough to duplicate. Brat, I was just offering the trailer idea as an alternative that may be a bit safer. I would add the weight gradually and test the bike thoroughly at each weight increment. (Message edited by lowflyer on January 12, 2006) |

Brat, Personally, I think I have enough luggage hanging from the front. Oh, another thing: WHY DO YOU HATE GAY TAXIES

PB, I think brat was referring to the 'brokeback orange' color of the defective Ulys. He never said anything about hating gay taxis. Bwahahahahaaa...brokeback orange....hehehehehe |

Brat, Do NOT do it. Hanging weight off the front end is a REALLY bad idea, as it can make a bike's handling unbelievably bad, not as in high effort, but as in high danger. |

Hi Paul, I'd carry 20lbs when climbing, the rest is spare ropes, shoes, harnesses and other sundry items, BTW I'm more into climbing cliffs than mountains! Here below at Ton Sai in Thailand!
