Hey, Got $200 Bucks? If you own an XB 12 and want to add volume, and boost without losing the stock exhaust valve, Kevin is developing a product for you. Prototype #1 has just finished testing and #2 is undergoing tests now. Looking at the newly delivered prototype finds the "ECONO" shorter than stock and sporting twin chrome outlets. The pipe is said to be 4 pounds lighter and mounts using the exact points as the stocker(relax some people don't know Kevin reworks stock pipes). In my case I have a 2004 XB12 that will be in warranty until October of 2006 so I'm not jumping to tear into voided warranty territory. I've got the stock ECM, Airbox, Exhaust valve, snorkel, and air cleaner: completely stock bike. Installation is simple, took me 2hrs the first time. Next try turned into 45 minutes, and last time it took longer to mount the chin fairing than install the ECONO. When I wheeled that thing out of the basement in through the garage and out onto the driveway, I thought I was prepared. I've heard audio clips of ALL the pipes on the BADWEB, but was not prepared for the first hand experience. I suggest having someone nearby with a camera to catch your reaction. All I had was the dog but damned if he wasn't barking as he ran for cover. I straight away e-mailed Kevin with the quote. "That summitch is loud; I like it!" Is it as loud as the force? Probably not. Does the force cost $200? Definitely not. This thing is called the "ECONO DRUMMER" for a reason. All you need is the pipe. Road tests found the pipe not to drag even when I got the boot to scrape (Lovin Bent Mountain), and noticeably more attention at the stoplights. Is it too loud? Not unless it's 4:00 a.m. and the neighbors are already pissed about that frequent burnout in the street thing. I found the exhaust note pleasing and actually deafened some of the annoying engine noises. I just enjoyed riding hearing something other than engine noise. I thought the stock pipe had a nice sound when idling, and the "ECONO" has those same characteristics just tripled and continuing throughout the rev range. Folks these were my impressions BEFORE the dyno runs, and after another 80 mile long way home I can't say they have changed. More to follow...NUTS |

Nuts, Glad your having fun with your testing, how does this pipe(muffler) compare in sound to the reg.Drummer(like mine).Does it have the deep tone of the reg.Drummer or more off a harsh tone like a Force?.....Charlie (still stuck in SC and missing my bike) |

Nuts, I got sorry, humorless, neighbors too! Those early AM burnouts seems to put them over the edge (and mine are the in-laws :-) .) Hey Charlie, good to see you posting up. G2 |

Hey Charlie, it sounds more like your Cyclone than your Firebolt. It's loud but at $200 with no other mods it isn't too loud. Kevin has another prototype being tested now so we'll see what that comes up with. The curve doesn't look too bad, it gave a little boost right @ 3500. Took the bike for a 422 mile trip on Saturday and yanked a wheelie shifting from 1st into 2nd on highway 29. I heard a 1200 sportster go by with straight pipes slash cut towards me and that bike was louder. Maybe because the sound was concentrated in the same direction. We've got a ride planned for Sunday the 11th, sure hope to see you there. Route 311 up Potts mountain and back around some other way. NUTS |

It is most definately louder (in a good way)! I can ride my kitted XB9R comfortably without the ear plugs but I think they may become part of my riding gear should I choose to replace my current muffler with the Drummer. Nutsosane, I took your advice and rode home keeping the RPMs' at or slightly above 3000. I think you were right about that. The transmission doesn't seem to jerk as much. It was a pleasure meeting you and look forward to introducing you to Windy Gap in the near future. |

Jackie, you guys should of followed us. what a great ride today. I was trying to keep up with Charlie on 43 but that is near impossible, he's just smooth. My riding mantra is "fast and loose baby" hey let's start a thread on the storm fronts page so we all can check in on weekly rides, mods and other stuff. I'll start it named "Roanoke Valley Fast and Loose" Nuts |

Hey Jason, I gave strong thought to following you guys when the group split but to be honest my arse was about to fall off. I have GOT to get one of those deluxe seats! I'm with ya on starting a page so we can all keep up on whats going on locally (the loose part I can probably live up to but have to work on the fast part LOL!). By the way drop me an email and I'll shoot you my number should you want to hook up for a shorter ride one evening this week. John3-16@cox.net |

I don't know any other way to do the 9 except the way it is now with the regular Drummer....If it had the valve and flat torque curve to start with then yes, but it doesn't....SORRY... Kevin www.kdfab.com |
