You can add me as well. I wish I could afford a couple more myself. I'll more than likely own the one I have until I can't hold it up anymore. And even then it'll probably be time to pass it down to my son!

Think of it as "thinning the herd".Only the strong S2's will be left.My neighbor has a low mile S2.I doubt we'll see an extinction. One can only think a few of these are parked in a "Private collection" garage somewhere.

JT:
I agree it's sad to see these fine bikes being chopped, Remember that they are chopping
cyclones and lightnings, as well as thunderbolts

Cheap motor, and "Bad-A$$" as well, It's amusing
The chopper guys don't realize that the numbers were not with hyperchargers and drag pipes
but the Buells had "101 hp" so my chromed out motor with the drag pipes is better, has to be....

At times, I believe in most cases that the bikes that are built are just ratty collections of parts,
Sadly another of a limited number of Buell motorcycles is DESTROYED,
Perhaps if, As you have suggested "we" collect the ones we like keep them as best we can and at some point the atrission will be wrecks only rather than chopper fodder. At that point the bikes will still have all of the qualities that are desirable AND they will be exclusive
(particulary the S2 as quite a few less of them were built vs say the X1 )
What most of these "builders" don't realize is that the larger engines and modular drive lines are the "standard" for a "chopper" and "sportster powered" choppers are looked at as second rate.

as an aside while I'm not much of a chopper guy,
I wondered what a CBX 6 cyl chopper might look like, perhaps a busa powered chopper,

My X1 has gotten more comments than any of the Suzukis' that I owned, While it has some rather annoying traits it is the most fun bike I have ever ridden, so unless some cager parks on "US" it will be arround fro a while.
In the end if you like it chopped Go for it, you may feel a little foolish when you tell some one that the motor in your second rate chopper came out of a "rare" S2 Buell.......
Then you can show them the new "mudtires" on your Corvette, or do a burn out in your Jag

I feel ya. It is an unconscionable practice. there is a nice guy on another Buell site who seems, perpetually, to part out his projects on Ebay. Some people are just that jerked off on the fast buck.
When I think about all the Indian Scouts and Triumph Thunderbirds that were hacked up in this practice, I'm not too stoked.

I know and I wrote the guy a note...Do not destroy the S2, use another bike......He wrote back, then buy the bike for 6500 dollars.....

I tried to explain what he was doing with the s2...that it had the lower powered buell motor and it was a classic...he did not care......

I too have been trying to buy up s2 parts in case I needed them for mine. I did purchase a frame, etc, and I am thinking of rebuilding another s2, a piece at a time. this one even has kim wegner name on the title and the buell motorcompany and the pegasus logo on the title...came with the special edition kit too...really cool...keep the s2's alive!

I look at these eBay parts sales and I think, " Dang. It would be nice to have a spare ______. And a spare____, etc." Then I realize that the best way to get all the spare parts I want would be just to buy another S2. Then I say, "Uh huh. Now I see what happened to those guys with a garage full of Buells." Then you're still looking for spare parts. For a lot more bikes. Who could look around the garage and say, "OK, you've gotta give up your _______ so your stable-mate can live."

I too wish I had the cash to buy all those parts and cheap complete bikes. Would be a nice small business.

Problem is the "chopper" guys can buy a low mileage Buell for less than 4,500. Then strip it down and sell the parts for at least 1500.00 then only have less than 3g in a low mileage "buell" motor. Its sad that a Bike is worth more in parts than it is put together.

sad, but not an uncommon occurance -- this has been the case in the fun car arena for years -- when I fenally sent my '65 Mustang down the road, it was worth 8 or 9 times in parts what it was whole -- Adam SMith, like gravity, is rarely wrong

I own an X1 but I totally agree, they chop up these classic sport bikes for some buck tooth inbred to vacuum a few dollars from a yuppie. I look at them and they don't have the geometry of the Buell and hence lose the handling. They have full frames, hence increase weight and removed farther from their pedigree, the raked front ends steer like crap. They have nothing in common with a Buell.

Any damn fool can buy a hard tail frame and plant an engine on it. I have looked at a lot of choppers and not a single builder seems to be able to offer rear suspension. The builders are not that good and I guess they don't employ actual engineers that could work out the dynamics. The choppers on TV and Ebay look like the most uncomfortable and impractical machines ever built. A recent one had a glass oil tank mounted to the side. That will look great with dirty oil in it and the first time a stone hits it I hope they notice before the rear tire slides out from under or the engine seizes. Choppers look cool but I want a bike that's fun to ride.

The question is why are Buell's so damn cheap? I see used ones all day long going for 3 to 4K on ebay, Blasts go for the same as a Lightning. Busa's are 7k for a 6 year old model and bimmers and duc's are like twice the price of a Buell. As long as Buells remain cheap with a compact high horsepower HD mill they will be chopped up for yuppie toys. Simple minds can only think of simple economics. We seem to be the only people that care....I want to buy a couple more before they are all gone. Den 99X1

Man- i could care less what my S2 is "worth", I like the integrity of having the frame and motor still mated as from the factory.
I have no pity for these shade-tree chop-shop dipsh*ts who dismantle these beautiful, relatively handmade machines so they score some benjamins....usually to buy new european enduros or to score 8-balls of crank...

my S2 is an 'essential' S2. frame, wheels and engine... iuf you think it or any machine is defined by it's fiberglass and plastic, try riding around on the bodywork alone...
Mine's a heart and soul S2, grim reaper or not.

Bike value is normally 50% of new. 10k for a new Buell results in 5k in about 2-4 years.

Got my 98 S1w in 2001 for 5400 with 4500 miles.
A 1999 BMW R1100SA ABS, 1500.00 Ohlins shocks, BBpower chip, sanjose intake, 500.00 hard bags and full remus exhaust for 7200.00 rode it for 6 months and sold it for the same price! This bike cost over 13k new.
My 2002 X1 with about 5k in after market parts I got used for less than 7k.

So about 50% of the new value for most bikes after the third to 4th year. Then they hold a steady price.

Oldog,

Did you say Busa chopper? How's this OCC (Yuck) style chooper look?
Busa Chopper
'Proof' it's a Busa...
Busa Chopper 2
Pics taken at Bike Week in Daytona Beach this past March. I don't really care for the bike (but love the headlight mount), but I find since I have switched to a digital camera I take WAY more pictures. Pictures of stuff that I may not like as a whole but dig some styling elements about.

Nice Pics Brankin!
The same thing I say about any chopper of that caliber, Nice paint & chrome, nice workmanship.
Thats realy a busa motor? can't see it for the "stuff". The headlight mount, and the jocky knob are definately well done as is the tank.
It is not my style (I definately like YOUR S2 setup - way cool [ more my style ])
What I was raggin about above is that most of the buell choppers I have seen are not of the quality of the one above but are "hack jobs" if the owners taste runs to minimalist that is ok.
I have seen a few that look like wildly customized sporties, nicely done, IMHO it's just a waste to destroy something that is unique in its own right to make something that may be of lesser ?? quality ?? I think some day I would like to get my hands on an s2, with the hard bags but if the carnage continues there will be darn few to buy.
If I were to build a chopper (can't see it) I would use a busa motor or a CBX (6 cylinder) motor as its about being outrageous, and that is about as good as it gets, besides every one else is using either harley or clone drivelines
I like the idea of my bike being "different in every sense", hmm sounds familiar, back to the save the s2 thread

just gave the bars a second look did you see the rider impailment device on the top tree?

Tramp, What you said!, I too don't care about book value, but if there is an up side to the destruction of buells for choppers its that we will be riding unique bikes, few and exclusive

think '68 mustang ......... it will just happen faster.

guys, let people do what they will with their bike. Im sure some of you have done things to these bikes that others wont like, its the same thing. if people want to build a chopper out of them then so be it.
