Rickie,

Thanks for the insights into your work, it's a treat to see such craftsmanship. The results are stunning.

Jersey, What's that growing out of your bike's butt? : )

Nice bike, Bart. But how do you keep the DOT sticker from pulling out your hair?

: )

Well that tears it. Now I want the S2 more than before. Very beautiful bike. A still masculine, but definitely beautiful bike. Need a longer seat for my wife than what is on the X1.

Hi guys, thanks for the kind comments.
The S2 is a fun bike. Handles beautifully. Nice feel.

My biggest ongoing complaint is the hard bags. I picked up some S2 bags (narrow lids) off Ebay a few years ago. Then bought some deep lids, one of which conveniently doesn't fit!

I just got back from a 3 day trip with very good friends to Yosemite (see http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/6817/112658.html?1115062721
I just can't fit what I'd like to bring in the small bags. And they leak when it rains (we rode through a bunch Thursday night).

My *new* plan is to find a pillion bag to mount on the pax seat - that should do the trick.

Without bags the bike is a beauty. I think the bags detract from the looks.

I think I should have bought the "S3 bags for S2's" when Buell offered it.

My other niggling items?

I'd like rearsets. I haven't found any. Often times on the freeway I'll simply use the pax pegs.

And the handlebars. I'd much prefer 7/8" bars. I have the Buell touring bars now, for me "perfect" would be similar but with 7/8" grips and maybe another inch taller or so.

The bike sure is a beauty though. And has been a lot of fun over the years. I think 3.5 years now and about 19,000 miles (by me).

Jim,I have a set of rear sets--if you know anyone who can make you a copy on a mill you can borrow them.Or we can see if Al Lighton wants to make some up.
And how hard would it be to weld up some bars with what you want--a little longer and put 7/8 ends on them so you can use 7/8 grips and keep the rest of your stock controls.

fireman,, i would really like a look at those rear sets. to see how hard they would be to whip out!! also thanks for the tips on the al swing arm conversion,, worked out great, relived the swing arm where the contact points were to give and extra 1" of swing.

jim sd,, i use soft bags and a tail bag by joe rocket and love them, used them for sturgis last year, definitely worked great for me.

64impalass,
there was an S2 in the Milw. Journal a few weeks ago. It was a bit above what your profile price range is though.

Bennett,
When you get the pearl bodywork mounted will you be discarding the blue/purple stuff? If so I might inquire of your asking price. ; )

FMJ, I'd love to see pics of those rearsets. I think I know a guy who could mill some up.

Re the rearsets and 7/8" bars, I will gladly buy from Al, Banke or anyone else we could get to make some up.

In fact, if we got enough interest we might just be able to do a group purchase to save a dollar or two.

Dammit, me too. I buy one, tell my wife it's for her, and curse my bad luck she believed me...so now I need one for myself.
The S2 is the Buell that really got me obsessed. I'd love to find a S3T but here in Alaska it's hard to find the old tubers, and I'm sure that I'll never get a deal like the one I got.

Supply and demand. When the demand (aka:$$$$) gets a bit higher more may be on the market. Problem is some people who want an S2 want to pay relatively little for one, or they only want one that is fully documented complete with the Signature paperwork. I'd probably trade mine off as-is for a bagger and then I could hotrod the M2, but nobody seems to think an S2/bagger swap is a fair trade somehow. S'all right with me, especially since I rode the S2 in to work today.

(shoot, now I have to go find another picture somewhere)

Compliments of the DynaCam:

ps, I'd rather swap off the M2, but this is an S2 thread. At times "a bike's a bike".
pps, the front wheel of the S2 wouldn't fit in the bicycle racks. ; )
