I just ordered a D & D slip on, I want to replace the stock muffler , cause I hate the tame sound of my bolt. what can I expect with just a slip on alone , is there something else that is a must do? Like adjust this and tweek that? it's the this & that I'm not sure about. thanks in advance. |

Get the race ECM. Your bike will be too lean otherwise with the more open exhaust. |

Your ECM is the computer that controls your fuel injction and ignition timing. The race ECM is a replacement computer that will provide a richer fuel mixture that will aloow your bike to run better with the new exhaust. It is a very easy install as it literally is just unplugging and replugging 2 plugs and 2 screws but you do need to then take the bike in to your dealer to have what is called the TPC(throttle position sensor) reset after the installation. that process takes about 30 minutes and cost around $30 but make sure you have a good Buell dealer to do it as Harley only dealers are kind clueless about what to do. |

With the 12 you don't need the race ECM. The race ECM "may or may not" be an improvement over just running the stock ECM with the D&D. There seems to be some issues with the new timing curve in the Race ECM for the 12 and how the bikes are responding. |

Yes you should be good to go. Several 12 riders I know have fitted aftermarket pipes and noticed were the 9s seem to run lean, they are running rich. The stock ECM is still of the programimg that the exhaust valve is still there and feeds fuel based on the flow rate with the valve. When you take the valve out of the equation, which is the RPM range the 9's run lean, the ECM seems to be adding more fuel there. I noticed it with my Vance and Hines, another rider has had to shut off his TFI running a Force pipe because it was running so rich through 3500 and I know of 2 riders with Jardines on their 12's that have the tell tale rich black soot ending their pipes as well as their plugs reading rich. My suggestion, install the D&D with the stock ECM, then ride it for a bit, couple days, then have it Dyno'd with the A/F sniffer in place and see where and how much the pipe starts to run lean. You can then judge for yourself or post it here and get opinions. |

I would listen to Wicked. My knowledge comes from an X1 and an S3 with FI not the new XB 12s. |
