I was less than a block from home, when my neighbor backed out from beside his garage....couldn't see me(Bright yellow?!?!), planted his back bumper in my right leg, and punted me! He was insured, and I am waiting for the agent to come look at it.
Looks like the damage amounts to: killed shifter, scratched derby cover, broke front turn signal, steering stab is leaking, gouged up the kickstand, and right grip....looks like the bars are bent slightly. Luckily no plastic damage(even though I want to make it black!). I hear the yellow is hard to get??
I got: a scuffed elbow, and a bumper shaped bruise on my leg...and a nice scratch on my new helmet!

I've been wanting to go to an aftermarket shifter anyway....anyone got one they wanna' sell??

Don't forget to include your helmet in the claim. The ER Xrayed mine and said they could even match the stone chips in the shell to distortions in the impact marks.

Couldn't see a Yellow Motorcycle? Dang, I would hate to walk, jog or ride a bicycle in your 'hood.

Just kidding, but sincerely wish I had a nickel for every time someone almost nailed me while backing out of a driveway or parking space.

after watching a buncha folks try and kill my wife on her yellow Blast last year, I took a car's eye view of it -- the amount of yellow on a bike is pretty small from any direction -- almost non-existant from front or back -- all goes to prove my contention that folks do not look for other vehicals, they look for threats . . . ..

me, I'm gearin up to look like the Lone Biker of the Apocolypse from Raising Arizona (one of the funniest movies of all time, btw) -- THEN I'll apear on the threat warning sensors!

Fix everything (and get a new helmet) , but keep the scratched derby cover! I think they look cool with a little character.

That's the kind of "Character" you want to have on your Dual Sport Dirty Street Bike, not a valuable show piece like a Buell.

That's not a crash. That's battle scarring!!!

Straighten the bars using a length of scaffolding pole. They'll soon spring back into the right place. Straighten the gear shifter. Junk those awful plastic fantastic turn signals anyway and put a new set of grips on her. JOB DONE!!!

Why do they call it a derby cover???

I gotta stress what others have already said- NEW HELMET. The integrity of your old one is now questionable, they are only designed to take a single impact. Let the insurance company buy you a new one, they can afford it. Glad you are okay bro...

VERY sore today!! The helmet didn't hit hard, just got some scuffs on it....but it was new, so the insurance is getting me a new one!
Mike...if you don't need that derby, let me know what you want for it. I will have it back together before the insurance ever cuts the check if I can. I will let them come look at it...then get started!

The cover is not shiney new but it's not all chewed up, I'll just mail it to you.

When I got hit a couple years ago the other driver was clearly at fault, I had a check within a week of the dealership send out the quote.
I hope it goes as well for you.

Took me a day to realize my ribs were broken due to taking the tank in the groin on the way off the bike.

Pay the shipping and the cover is yours

What's a derby hat?

Surely nothing to do with horse racing because I've never seen Her Majesty or anyone else for that matter attend Royal Ascot with something on their head looking like a Sportster primary cover inspection plate?????

Rocker

Derby = bowler (but you knew that ;-} )

long ago, big twins clutch covers had "brims" on em, so they really did look like derbies -- the "brim" is long gone, but the HD tribe is hide-bound, and learns new things slowly

I love bikes with battle scars that look a bit gritty. Shows they're ridden and ridden hard. As long as a bike is mechanically sound and safe, scars are cool.

BTW, NEVER re-bend a handle bar!

Turn signals are useless. I junked them and found that people are more receptive to eye contact and hand signals anyway. I found the horn useless. By the time I've hit it I'm already out of the way of whatever happened and drivers usually either ignore me or look at me like I'm stupid. I found a handful of throttle and a finger as I go past is much more satisfying.

Good call Rick, turn signals are a pain in the , only seen at night most people don't pay attention to them anyway and are so easy to forget that you have them on and then that one poor soul who is paying attention thinks your gonna turn because you forgot to cancel it on the last turn and bam!! Hand signals are the way to go!!

That derby hat is ace man!

Bars are made from sprung steel and I've straightened hundreds of them over the years and I've never know one snap because it was straightened.

Of course you'll always here scare stories but you can bet they're from someone who's never straightened a bar or owned a dirt bike.

When they are "re-bent" they will crease to some extent depending on the severity of the bend. In any case the structural integrity is compromised to some degree. There are also a lot of aluminum handlebars out there, too. I could see tooling around with a re-bent bar to get the thing home without slapping your gas tank at every turn, but handlebars are too cheap a part to not replace. My livelihood is certainly worth more to me than that.
