OK,I am at a loss. These darn S-3's are not as easy as an S-2.I have S/A and mounting block on floor and have the isolator bushings off.How do I separate the S/A and block from here/The darn aluminum threaded pieces don't come right out like the ones on an S-2 with the homemade special tool to unscrew em. |

Jim, They should unscrew just like the S2's. Probably some corrosion in there seizing things up. |

That doesn't sound good Jim, one side may be stripped. IAMike just did his S3, I'll shoot him a note. They should be the same as the M2 and X1. Brad BTW, do you have any spare S2 side plate bolts? I think I'm going to have to drill my left side off. I have broken 3 allen sockets and bent 2 wrenches. I suspect they are going to be hard to find without a special order.. I cant get any of the three loose! Right side was no problem. |

If ya can't find the bolts, let me know. I'll see if I can bring them next Saturday night. |

Jim, Does yours have the long bolt between the bushings? After I took that out and loosened the pinch bolts the bushings came right out. |

Brad, take a brass drift and smack those bolts hard.Should shake corrosion loose.Always worked for me.I also use an impact wrench(type you hit with a hammer) and a good quality bit.And you can always hit it in the opposite direction to break loose. |

I may be wrong, but I think all S3's had the long bolt. The 96 S1's had the slotted pre-load "nuts" that threaded to the center piece to set the bearing preload from each side. But I THINK all 97's, but KNOW all 98's and later have the long bolt. Jim, peer down in the center of those with a flashlight, you'll see an allen head hex on one side. Tighten the pinch bolt on the OTHER side, then use an allen wrench to unscrew the allen bolt. Al |

Jim, I'll try smacking it again. I was able to pick up 3 bolts at the dealer today! I about fell out of my chair when I called and they said they had them in stock. I picked up more allen wrnches today. |

Brad,go get some quality allen sockets--Craftsman etc,to do the job.Allen wrenches all seem to be made of butter. |

Jim, I broke 4 Craftsman sockets! I was able to get the lower bolt out but had to resort to drilling the upper 2. What a pain! If you slip with the drill even a little bit, the stainless bolt work hardens like you wouldn't believe. After the top bolt heads were drilled off the side plate came off no problem. The left over bolts were still stuck a bit. They had rusted inside the frame bosses. There was no way they were coming out with a wrench. Word to the wise S2 owner. Remove these bolts once in a while and coat them well! I think even a decent coat of Locktite Blue would have prevented this. Tomorrow I polish the side plate and mount the new isolator. The front should be a snap.. Man, it sure is easy on these S2's! (well, sort of!) Brad |

(Shoot, another thing on the to-do list, thanks, I think. Note to self: buy hex wrenches - many of them.) |

WRT the stuck side plate bolts; When I finally got them out and went to re-install, I lubed the coned underside of the bolt head as well as the countersink in the side plate using never-seize. I'm hoping the lessened friction there will make disassembly easier down the road. Henrik |

Henrik, that should work. Just don't let it idle too long or it'll disassemble itself before your very eyes! rt |

Actually I intended to use the antisieze on the bolt heads. I figured the Locktite blue on the threads would be good enough. |
