I blew my White Brothers muffler off of my bike coming home from work yesterday. By the grace of God, I didn't run it over and eat pavement. I am looking at a pro series muffler on ebay right now, but not sure if my headers are stock or not or if it makes a difference. The ad says that the pro series muffler's inlet ID is 2.5". I tried to measure the only part of my white brothers muffler I had left(the slip on piece and front cover with 6 rivet holes) and it is real close to 2.5, but may be a hair smaller... Any help would be greatly appreciated! ty |

If you have the race header, it goes back a little farther than the stock header. The stock header stops near the front of the engine. The race header makes the bend and goes about 8” towards the rear of the bike because the race muffler, at least the factory one, is much shorter than the stock muffler. I have a picture of the stock header from my 99 x1 on E-bay right now you can take a look at if that helps you distinguish yours any better. Good luck. |

All X1's had a 2.5" collector. I don't think White Brothers made a can for the race header but I may be wrong. Like Delta said, it the collector stops in the front of the motor, it's a stock header. If it goes all the way under the left side of the motor, it's a race header. The late model Pro series Buell can is the same as the Supertrapp. It fits on the stock header. Can you point us to the Ebay listing? Brad |

That's a stock header with a 2.5" collector - it ends in front of the engine. The 90 degree bend attached to the header is the White Bros front pipe. You will need a race header if you go for the race muffler. Any replacement muffler designed for the stock header will come with it's own front pipe. (Message edited by SimonD on March 17, 2005) |

Unless you can find a race header and muffler, and they are getting rarer these days, I would recommend the Supertrapp muffler. Until Recently, Buell sold the Supertrapp as their Pro Series Slip-on. But I just looked, it is now off the Buell P&A web page. But it was essentially identical to the Supertrapp slip-on. The supertrapp is the most robust of all the aftermarket slip-ons, and has the benefit of being able to adjust for noise vs power. 100% stainless construction. A bit heavy, but strong as bull. I ran the vance & hines on my X1..literally fell apart within a year. White brothers was next, It lasted about a year. Now I am running the Supertrapp 0 problems in 2 years. Good luck bud. |

After three riding seasons on my 2000 X1, my V&H is still working like a champ although I added Buell's upgraded muffler mount at my cost as a precautionary measure. Now watch, the thing will totally disintegrate this year just cause I mentioned this. LOL |

The D&D slip-on is built like a Tank also. Requires the new style "Y" hanger, and the muffler has the two mounts on it. The whole thing is mounted in 3 places and is solid as a rock. Neighbor thinks it sounds like a Winston Cup car. |

I have a '99 X-1. I currently have rattled off a Vance & Hines SSR2 and was looking at a carbon fiber pipe stated to fit a 1998 S3, S1. I was thinking this pipe would work on my machine. Anybody know for sure? |

I used the Supertrapp after researching what was available(6 years ago) and the Supertrapp was just built better than anything else offered. All SS and bulittproof. I rode an X1 with the Vance and Hines and I didn't like the sound -very raspy. also looked looked like it wouldn't last. So far 6 years and 10k miles with no problem. ONly took it apart once about 2 years ago to clean and it was really not bad, the disk design looks like it would be a pain to take apart but I used High temp anti-sieze on ALL the bolts and had no problems (always recommend using anti-sieze with SS hardware and a must when threading SS fasteners into mild steel). |
