I am pretty sure this is normal do to break in. My new 04 12R has 330 miles on it now. During those miles I noticed the cooling fan was running a lot even in 45 and 50 deg weather. I am just posting to make sure. This is the first XB that I have broken from zero miles. My last one I had was a 9S with 350 miles and it never did that. Thank you Brupska |

I think I saw the same thing and ran less as I put more miles on the bike. |

Yea, I believe mine did run more the first thousand miles or so. More miles and some synthetic oil will help... Oh, and I believe the 12s run hotter than the 9s too... Kevin |

It's normal, my 9 did that a lot until around 2500 miles. Now it just runs in stop and go traffic, on the interstate or in spirted rides. After I slow down from this last 2 it shuts off after running for a short time. |

Two suggestions Change to synthetic at 1000 miles. Add the right side air scoop from Trojan. Makes a world of difference in fan running (mine has not come on since install). |

I did change the oil at 330 miles. Still running HD dino oil. I have heard of people changing earliar than that. I plan on changing over to Mobil1 V-twin oil after a 1500 miles and Mobile1 75-90 gear oil. On my 9 when I hit 1000 I changed to HD synth3 and I seemed to use a lot of oil on track days or hard street riding. I think this is turning into another oil thread so thats all I am goin to say. Don't want to beat a dead horse. Thanks all Brupska |

My fan ran alot when the bike was new too. She's got almost 1500mi now, and the last time I rode, I noticed the fan did not run for the whole ride until I shut her down(@ 45min "spirited ride" AND I'M STILL RUNNING DINO OIL!!!!(m-1 v-twin very soon) 03' 9S |

Put some miles on those bikes. My fan rarely comes on, and when it does, it doesn't stay on as long as all the other XBs I run with. 31+thousand miles smiles! |

Heck, how can you tell if the fan comes on when you are riding? You youngsters must have mighty good ears! The only time I hear the fan is after I turn the engine off, and that is usually in hot weather after stop and go traffic. Runs fast for a few seconds, shifts into cruise for a little bit, then stops. Cyko Bob |

Hear it? No, I feel it when the fan goes on. Especially on warm days when my seat starts to get warm. |

I have noticed the right side of the frame getting hot on warm days. Is that mostly due to the fan? Cyko Bob |

I am with glitch, I have 13,000 miles now and the fan rarely comes on, now that the weather is warming up it comes on a little more. I thought the fan was broke because it was never coming on so I ran the crap out if it for a while and shut it off and the fan came on so I say no worries. Synthetic oil helps too. |
