Hello all, I'm a new owner of an XB12R. It's got 6k on the clock, but it's new to me since I've been a Honda man for many years. Anyway, I've been lurking here for about a month and I'd have to say that this board is a great source for XB ownership. Anyway, onto the question at hand: My XB has oil leaking out of the clutch cable that enters the transmission. It's not much, maybe just a drop or two, but in any case it's not a good thing. The bike is still under warranty, so I'll be taking it in to get fixed, but I'm wondering if anyone else has experience this? This is the first Harley product that I've ever owned..........should I be concerned? |

All of my leaks were from the oil line fittings . Ive noticed that if I over-lube the clutch cable , there may a drop or two of cable lube drop out of the lower fitting , but, heck have it checked out, may just be a bad seal . |

Marking it's territory? Hmm, I'd better get that fixed before it rubs off onto my Hondas. I'll try to snug it up and see if that helps. Thanks for the info!! BTW, is anyone on here from Ohio? |

Lebanon (near Cincinnati / Dayton)! Where you from? Who was your dealer? |

How DO you lube the clutch cable? If I had this info last summer it PROBABLY wouldn't have snapped during a 90mph upshift. |

Check to see if it is leaking from between the plastic jacket and the fitting to the primary case. If so it's a blown seal in the cable and the cable needs to be replaced. My 12R started leaking at about 6k too and the dealer replaced the cable under warranty. |

Reep: Your question above brings to mind the te shirts that had the green alien smoking a joint on the front of them that says: "Take me to your dealer" |

How DO you lube the clutch cable? I use some stuff called dry slide - its a graphite powder type stuff i think - Anyway, I remove the cable from the perch and squirt some down on this end, but before that, when I adjust the clutch cable I squirt some down to lube to lower part of the cable. Pretty easy , and it makes the clutch pull a slight bit easier. |

If the chin fairing is removed and fitted incorrectly it can pinch the clutch cable and tear the cable outer casing allowing oil, which finds it's way into the clutch cable from the primary side crankcase, to leak out. A new clutch cable or some duct tape over the damaged outer cures the problem....may not be the problem but it's worth checking |

It has not been a big issue, but it has happened a few times (more in tests than in warranty). The leak will not get any worse, but why should you have to live with it? The cables have been improved with better internal o-rings and a better crimp. I would have the dealer waranty it and make sure the replacment part is not from old dealer stock. |

That's great Anon. True it was never much of a leak, it just bugged me. Old dealer stock is rarely a problem with my dealer |

And don't forget to tell your dealer somebody posting as "Anon" on the BWB told you to demand this level of service. LMAO |
