No... It says - "Gus on the big Kwak comes by me on the buell on the way out of a corner like I'm in neutral" That's a comparison between a Buell and a ZX-10R... NOT a comparison between a Buell and "other bikes". Keep your facts straight please. IMO, that entire article was a bunch of hogwash anyway. I'm glad they liked the Buell (and gave the 12R their nod as the best bike to go for when deep twisty canyons are your playground), but none of it matters. What DOES matter is which bike suits YOU the best. You'll notice that they did indeed mention that superior stability of the Buell when leaned over. "It's just so stable leaning over. It doesn't drop in as easily as the big ZX but once it's over it gives me soo much confidence, and you know if it hits a bump or something you're not going to get knocked off line." THAT is important on the street. The Buell is a STREET bike. Not a track weapon (although if you are on a tight bumpy track, the Buell will indeed shine). That's what it seems Erik wanted from the XB. That's EXACTLY what he got. The engine he chose HELPS this. It's a street fighter... the best one out there. I'll leave you with this... "But the Itsy-Bitsy Buell, with it's bonkers GP geometry is fastest round here, and we're all quicker on the "big" ZX-10R than the "nimble" GSXR-600. Hmmm." "Hmmm" Indeed . I still think they didn't have the pair to take the Buell to it's limits, even though it was voted best WRT the scope of the article. (Message edited by m1combat on January 27, 2005) |

I bought the Buell and love it, but I imagine I might be faster on a bike with 50 more horses. |

In fact, now that I think about it, I was faster on a bike with 50 more horses. However, you can have that bike, I like the way the Buell engine feels much better. |

Yes its going to be a sad day, when your engines are being built in another country with sub standard values with cheap low cost parts THEN palmed off with the touch of HONOR and PATRIOTISM for something that just doesn’t meet the grade. JEEP = Made in Mexico (no offence intended) GM = Designed and some parts built in Japan/European (no offence intended) PORSCHE = lets face it, it’s a FIAT. HD…. KEEP IT ON YOUR OWN SOIL… $$ isn’t everything, true LOYALTY and PATRIOTISM is…. No offence to anyone in foreign countries, as I myself live in Australia, but LOVE the HD/BUELL Motorcycles. Used to own an Aprillia RS250 & then RSV, but couldn’t help myself, speed demon Decided the life was more enjoyable in Streetfighter bikes than trying to break the open speed record on 2 wheels. Well that’s my 2c worth… |

Hey Briz, I hate to break it to you but the XB's have international parts too. Biggest being the frame made in Italy. |

They don't have us beat in electronics... Intel, AMD, Nvidia, ATI, Creative, Adaptec, Seagate, Western Digital, IBM, Etc, etc, etc... I do like the inexpensive parts though . |

I was on the SAE motorcycle committee for a few years and gave the HD guys a hard time once or twice about all of the Japanese and German parts. They took it well. Every one of them was a really stand up guy. |

the fact of the matter is that there is no suych thing as a transpo unit that's all-american any more -- hasn't been for quite some time, and I'll lay good odds that there never will be again -- had an eye-opener, years ago, when my wife's turbo 900 alternator when belly up, and was quote 6 large for a replacement (hey, to me 6 large is hundreds. thousands would be 6 massive!) -- I decided to delve more deeply into the engine bay, and, much to my delight, was confronted with a motorola alternated, with the major subassemblies stamped, wait for it, made in New Jersey! imagine the internet boards in Malmo and Stockholm ragging about the cheap US parts in thier Swedish rides! world market -- say it with me -- this does NOT mean that marketing departments won't wave the flag when it suits their purposes (which is, after all, to sell units), and it doesn't mean that ill-informed folks won't wave the flag when it suits their egos -- you can be confident that the profits generated by your Buell purchase stayed in the US though (minus the cost of the imported parts {grin}) |

There is a minimum percent of parts that have to be from the US to call it "made in America" by law. The funny thing is that while Honda, Kawi, Toyota, Nissan, etc. strive to get the label, Ford will build a truck in Mexico and it is still considered American by the consumer in this country. Also, the profits are often not repatriated due to the tax hit. |

heres a thought but i dont think mr buell would put his name on a bike that was not built in the US. true there is a few parts made other places but all in all these bikes are still built in Wisconson and that is one of the things i love about the bikes and i dont think that Mr Buell has any desire to change that. |

I love my Buell and what it does... and the way it does it...the reason I elected to bring it to Korea. At the same time, I have a big Valky for the times my wife wants to travel with me, and I love my ZRX when I am traveling alone and I am in an area where I can cruise near or in excess of the ton (wide open west Texas). As for day to day riding and all around fun, I am a Buell nut, and I will have at least one Buell the rest of my riding days. We are all nuts, proven by the bucks we throw into our bikes...and the time we spend on this silly (love it) website!

I do not agree that with Maxima when he says an American company like Buell should go to Toyota for help. I know Porsche isn't American but it still isn't Japanese. On the Ford v. Chevy thing I really don't care. I have always been a Ford guy but if Chevy comes out with a better product I will buy it. Hell I did that already. Can't stand the Ranger so i bought a Colorado. See avatar for a blurry pic. As long as Buell doesn't go to Japan for help I will have no problems with them. I just can't stand japanese cars and trucks. |

>>>>As long as Buell doesn't go to Japan for help Japan played a key role in the history of Buell. To try to forge "World Class Motorcycles" with "don't leave Walworth county for help" mentality would be ludicrous. It's a new world. . . reach up with your left hand, adjust the spark advance on the side of the steering column and come on up here where we are. Ever read the story of the Japanese Fender guitars? Porsche helped with the development of the V-Rod engine and had a major roll in the aborted NOVA line of engines that H-D was developing. Showa suspension components are the industry standard, so what to do there? H-D in the eighties went looking for a U.S. manufactuer for forks and shocks and could find no one who could build the quantities with the quality at a price that would be affordable. The lines are so blurred now who knows what is what. Look in the automotive field: GM owns SAAB, Ford owns Volvo. Chrysler is owned by Daimler. Goldwings are built in Ohio. Toyota trucks are built in Kentucky. Or is that Tennessee? BMW's built in South Carolina, yet Dodge Ram Extended cabs are built in Mexico along with some Fords and Chevy trucks. Driving a Chevy S-10 4 door? Built in South America. Drive a Chrysler LH sedan? Canada. A new Magnum, 300, or Charger(Blech) it has more Mercedes content than Chrysler content looking at it from the traditional way of thinking. At least our Buells are designed and built in one place by people who we know we could meet and communicate with. That's cool. |

All I know is that I would be faster on a bike with more horsepower...when going straight. Any more than the XB12R can pump out when modified a bit and you are just asking for a ticket. The only place that really fits is a place where there is no speed limit or the track. As for in the turns I find that being in the right gear and keeping in the upper revs works well in the turns. Any more power and it is too much...I have an XB9R which will soon have the Race ECM and Dummer (If I can ever get a hold of those guys) and I can't see any situation other than straight line situations where I would wish there was more power on tap. Emotionally there is no other bike for me than a Buell when it comes to street bikes. |
