A plastic grocery bag flew across the road the other morning when I was riding and stuck to my blue X1W header and melted. Does anyone know how to get the melted plastic off the header?

Yikes...been there, done that as they say.

Lots of sandpaper, steel wool and elbow grease. I left the big ugly spot for several years trying to convince myself that it would burn off.

I've had the plastic bags on the front and have toasted a fair share of Aerostich inner right knees.

A very little bit of effort and a scotch bright pad took care of a similar blemish on my Cyclone's rear header. Like Court, I had left it for some time before confronting the blemish. I was surprised at how easily it was removed. My spot was just a little half-dallar sized blemish though. You might first try some solvent like acetone or engine-cleaner or even oven-cleaner before abrading your nice blue pipes. Be careful to avoid getting any of that cleaner stuff on stuff you don't want stained. Might be a good idea to first test any cleaner/solvent on a non-descript area of your header to ensure that it won't stain/affect the blue coating.

LOL...I had one get me last year. Getting it off my ceramic coating wasn't the hard part. It was also all over the cam cover. That was a b!tch to get polish back.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one this has happened to. Thanks.

Medic,
I had real good luck getting melted plastic off my front header using 00 steel wool while the header was still hot from riding a few days after the initial melting. It worked like a charm but I don't have blued headers. Mine are stock 98 S3 headers and once cleaned look like always...sort of bronze color.
Good luck
