Is this the bow hunting season Dave? Down south I saw a whole lot of trucks & ATV's hauling deer, looked like a record kill. |

Bow season started on Oct 1st. I skipped the first weekend to do the crud run. Blackpowder season starts this Sat and runs thru the 24th. I have been deer hunting with a muzzle loader since I was 14 and have never missed a season since. I have 2 muzzle loader tags and 2 bow tags to fill! I can get up to 3 more tags for bow if I need/want them. I'll be putting that knife to good use next week for sure Bomber! I carry it with me every time I go to the woods. Thanks again for giving it to me. Dave |

Best of luck Dave, have fun stay safe! I've always enjoyed BP hunting, 'specially with the Ruger Old Army and TC .36! |

I use a TC stock but it has a Sharon .58 cal, 36" target barrel. I t is a 1 in 72" twist specially made for patched round balls. Gun weighs in at about 13 lbs. The main reason I use that one(I have several)is it was my Grandpa's. He passed away back in 1988 and he is the one that got me started hunting and shooting. I get a big ole smile with every deer I drop with his old gun, I know that somewhere, he does too. I use real black powder not that sissy pyrodex stuff. I cut my patches at the barrel too. No speed loaders for me! Real, old school muzzle loading, for me! Dave |

Last time I went hunting I took a TC Contender in .223 and a Glock 20 in 10mm with a barrel extension that was ported. Never got the chance to go Black Powder. |

Wycked, If you ever get the chance to try out black powder shooting, do it! Gives a whole new meaning to shot placement when it's going to be a minute or two before you can shoot again. Dave Dave |

Dave, Try taking out a deer at 100+ yards with a .223 out of a 12" barreled TC Contender. I was often told I would do real well with Black Powder due to my skill at shot placement. |

Good luck Dave! I'll call you tomorrow with the rest of the info you need to complete my order. The rain broke this afternoon for a couple of hours and I HAD to get out and put some miles on the new bike. When you get tired of blasting bambi, ride South and I'll introduce a new challenge for ya.... *I guess I should warn folks that the link takes you to a photo of a wild animal that experienced an unnatural death at the hands of a well armed and overweight Southern white male. I've lost allot of weight since then, but not as much as the other guy. http://aa5ch.smugmug.com/photos/8933595-M.jpg |

I'd love to go hog hunting. I'd want to use my bow for that. Dave |

Dave, YOU DA MAN! Pokin' a feral hog with a sharp stick is dirty business! That big .58 would get a hog's attention in a hurry! RLB's are for the best! I've had good luck with TC cast bullets, but it sounds like you're a true 'traditionalist', even more fun and challenge. Best of luck, be safe, have fun. |

Yeah, it's strange but I prefer to hunt with an old fashioned muzzle loader but my bow is a Mathews, high tech compound bow? |

Well it took me 3 days but the first one is on it's way to my freezer! Last night at 6pm I shot a spike buck. One down, 3 to go! Taking today off from hunting to catch up on some work and spend some time with Kandie. Dave |

On Sunday, after seeing all the deer exit a hayfield at the south end, we put up a tree stand at the south end. Sunday night I watched as 7 deer went across the hayfield, ON THE NORTH END! Closest one to me was 176 yards! Those deer are smart that way sometimes. Or maybe we are just dumb that way? That's why they call it hunting, not shopping! Dave |

I here tell that we got slingshots in Texas that will take out a deer at 200 yds. Seriously Dave, good of you to not shoot recklessly and risk a gut shot or similar wounding. Or did you? Congratulations on the 1st buck. I sure do miss hunting deer. |

I'm hunting with a muzzle loader. It's not one of these new, high power rifle disguised as a muzzle loader either. Open sights, patched round lead ball, real black powder. 100 yards is my self imposed limit and it would need to be the perfect set up before I took a shot at that range. I prefer it up close and personal. Most of the deer I shoot with my gun are under 50 yards, some within about 20. Going back out to try and fill my other tags tomorrow. And yes Outrider I am a meat hunter! Always have been. Dave |
