r.t. Are you staying at my place as well? That'd be fun. The accommodations are likely going to be a bit rough, but it'd be fun.

I'm speechless. Where are the police when you need them? If that had been me and Paul in the picture there'd have been an NYPD cruiser pulling up to the curb!

We did take quite a "wrong turn" on the NYC Subway and surfacing (Henrik, back me up here) on East Flatbush Avenue would not have been wise. I was suggesting a quick U-Turn to Tony Brooklyn Heights for lunch on the Promenade.

I've gotten used to this stuff after my little incident taking Colin to Harlem for BBQ when he was here to do the Gomez Concert. It got ugly on 125th in front of the Apollo Theatre....

Knowing WHERE to be.....pricless.

Seriously....we had a BLAST last weekend doing music and sharing Buell tales.

I accidentally got off the Long Island Railroad in the Flatbush area some years ago ... early evening, getting dark - bad move!

The place looked like a war zone; 2 police cars parked on the short walk between the LIRR station and the Subway - I was happy to see them there. Garbage, toppled buildings and razor barbed wire all around.

Got to the Subway station, the roof of which was completely covered in razor barbed wire, and a character right out of Pulp Fiction was manning the booth. Got up on the platform, which originally serviced 2 tracks, except now one track had fallen down/colapsed so only one was in service in my direction. (The Subway is above ground there - doesn't make sense, I know : ))

I lived in the Red Light District in Copenhagen for about 10 years and have experienced a lot both there and during my ER days, but that place plain scared me.

Mary Tyler Moore grew up in Flatbush:

Can't be all that bad, can it?

Can't speak for the entire area - as with all of NYC, you walk down one street and it's all pretty and flowers; then turn the wrong corner and it's an entirely different scene...

Besides, that was a few years ago - many things are changing in the different neighborhoods.

Yep, and understand fully, learned that lesson in the LosAngeles area years ago, it don't take long to get to the DMZ sometimes.

 know fear
btw, understand they're talking about building a NASCAR track on Staten Island. That grill would look good straped down in the back of a proto 250 pickup truck. Much the fashion statement at the tracks here in the South.

Never mind the NASCAR - the people who own/run VIR is negotiating to build a similar facility, including a 4.2 mile roadrace track, in South Jersey. They will supposedly start building next year and have at least the track and paddock area ready for use in late 2006. Imagine AMA races just a few hours away - it could happen.

For those of you haven't been, VIR is an absolutely amazing facility. The tracks are like your favorite twisty backroad, only with ample run-off : D

Staten Island will happen.

NYC is like most the cities I have been in, traveling 44 states on Buells, there are places you just don't go at 11:45pm on Thursday night.

New York just has more places you CAN go.

: )

I say as I sit here eyeing 6 gratis tickets from a riding partner for Clapton's opening show. Ya sure meet interesting folks on these scooters!~

oh yeah, Henrik, listened to this broadcast in April and thought you might enjoy it: "The Island at the Center of the World"
Author Russell Shorto describes how early Manhattan developed from wilderness to the Dutch colony that was America's original melting pot.
