I've spoke to the Steam Packet ferry booking office yesterday. They will NOT take any reservations for 2005 until 2004 TT race week. They have no price to quote for 2005 consequently.

This years prices have rose by less than 5% above last years but that's not to say there will be a price rise next year.

This years prices are

bike + rider £78 each way (£156) pillion £31 extra each way (£62)

car + 2 occupants £166 each way (£332) additional occupants £31 extra each way (£62 each)

A 15 seat minibus pays the cars rate, each occupant after the allowed two paying the £31 each way addition. 15 people would be £1128 or £75.20 each.

If we go the book ourselfs route I would reserve a ferry trip. It would be for the friday before the first race leaving the last friday even if I have to miss the Senior race.

Not likly I will have the funds to go but just in case.

I will also try and book on one of the Seacats, which is far nicer boat the the others.

Just received the following from the Bike tour company, as there seems to be no real commitment for a group to travel to the TT if I dont here to the contry in the next few days, I will contact him to thank him for his input and tell him we are not intrested.
I am still going as well as a couple of the Euro based Elves so will book our own ferry and accom in the next few weeks and if any one else makes it in 2005 will look forward to trying to hook up.

Paul Rogers

Hello all,

I'm thinking of giving up running the TT as package tour in future years. I
have to put up a lot of money and commitment 12 months in advance - people
SAY they will book, but then change their minds during the year.

Every year I get 50 "definate" customers, every year I buy 15-20 tickets,
and my "50+ customers" dwindle to 12 or so, and I'm left with debts and a
van to send over. Once again, I have 3 tickets left right now.

NO MORE.

I'll happily help you for 2005, but I want commitment now. If there is a
large group, I'll escort it - fully supported as this year. If not, I'll
simply set it up for you, and organise it for you, and I'll most likely just
come over for a week-ends' camping myself.

I leave for the 2004 TT on 2nd June, and I return on the 12th.

This is the time, the ONLY time, to book crossings for 2005, knowing I get
get whatever time you want, whatever sailings and whatever duration and
route. For a GROUP, it has to be done like this. From now on, I'm no
longer prepared to gamble on buying 15-20 tickets in advance, without any
advance customers.

Accommodation also has to be reserved very early - perhaps not 12 months in
advance (although people do) but even so ASAP is best. B&Bs and small
hotels will not generally accept a booking for less than 8-10 nights.

Camping's not a problem - you just turn up and pitch a tent.

So - does anyone want me to book tickets (and accommodation?) while I'm
there this year? I'll need £100 deposit per ticket - which doesn't even
come near the ferry ticket price BTW.

Have a think about, and let me know before I go to the TT.

I'll alway try and help AFTER the TT, but the chances of geting a group onto
pre-race and post-race ideal ferries are then very slim.

I'm not being deliberately obstructive here - just realistic.

I cannot continue to run a trip which takes most of the year to set up,
invloves 10 times more risk and hassle than any other tour, and makes the
least money. (not just the least money - it stands to make huge losses if
things go wrong - like when the races got cancelled in 2001 due to Foot &
Mouth disease - so all customers cancelled, leaving me with £1000s in debt -
luckily, most got recovered.)

let me know if you want anything arranging when I'm over there in 2 weeks
time.

Peter -- good on you! Jealous as heck over here in Chicago!

as for the Bill's post above, I'm sure I have no appreciatation for what it takes to put something together like the tours he's spoken of . . .. but expecting a 100% commitment more than 365 days out is, er, less than entirely realistic -- reasonable, perhaps, but difficult to do . . . that's a long time for things to go south . . . .

mebbe I'll grab one of the AMA tours to IOM (I know it's for the "other" race, but I won't have to hock the ranch a year in advance to go)

Intersting had to rearrange the booking 48 hours after making it and they had taken over 5,500 advanced booking for next year already.

Pay attention over there folks, and have a good time. There may be an interesting alignment of events occuring (speculatively verified by a not too long past photo series posted hearabouts if your creative memory is alive). ; )

Enjoy the races, and pay attention to the side shows as well.

There are quite a bunch of UK Buellers heading there. You may, if you wish, hook up with them via the forum at WWW.UKBEG.COM

Best Regards

Steve.
