I have a 02 X1 that the stator was replaced due to being defective. Once installed and everything back together, the engine just turns over and does not start. Any ideas would be appreciated. I'm suspecting that I might've cranked the crank nut down to much. I didn't use a torque wrench when putting back together.

You likely missed plugging something back in when you put everything together. A crank nut wouldn't stop the engine from firing, and the torque spec is high enough that I *doubt* you overtorqued it..even if you did somehow get it tight enough to bind everything up, the engine wouldn't crank at all.

The wires from the stator come out begind the front sprocket cover. I think the timing signal goes near that area too.
I would revisit that area and see if something is mashed or disconnected.

Is the neutral light working ok? That's back there too.

Neutral light is working, but the engine does not run. Is there a test I can do to narrow things down. I replaced the fuel filter and plugs. Put fresh gasoline in the tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

Did you look under the sprocket cover as I suggested?

Is there spark? Did the primary coil wires get knocked loose?
Can you hear the fuel pump working? Did the fuel pump wires get knocked loose?

Yes, did a spark test and checked fuel pressure, all is good. I'm double checking wires all along the cover and near the battery.

Sorry, on the last post, I meant to say. The engine turns over at a good speed but does not catch to actually run on its own.

Are the injectors working? You pull them out and they spray fuel?

Didn't do that. That's next then.

I think after an attempt to start with out a fire, fuel will be present, if not possible fuel issue, don't pull the injectors,
sadly if you have a copy of spy you can cycle the injectors to check them,

I'm with Nate check for wiring issues if it was running before.

Check fuel pressure as well.

Anyone has a copy of ECM spy I can purchase. I only need the program. I purchased a complete, cable and CD, but lost the CD during my move to Florida.

Check and recheck your steps through the entire project. I am an advocate of changing only one thing at a time. I would go backwards, remove the plug, check the connections insuring they are in the right order. Keep going backwards even if you must uninstall the entire unit. Be sure to note each step, check and reinstall it again.

You mentioned the other stator was "defective", was it broken? Did you replace the magnets?

If it was running before then I seriously doubt you developed a sudden fuel injection issue if you only replaced the stator. It is far more likely that you missed something or did something that caused the issue. The bike may not even know the stator is present. Keep it simple one step at a time, note your changes. Don't fall into the X1 FI Rabbit Hole.
