I got the starter solenoid issue done, and a clean bill of health from the Harley dealer in town, now I'm asking opinions. on my 1125cr, thinking of having installed a USB charging port. I don't want to run the risk of messing anything up, hence me going to the dealer. What brand and type would you suggest, and I'll let them deal with the wiring and mounting. So, what suggestions? BTW, my bodywork and seat was on, but they only put the screws in loosely, I had to tighten them all up. |

Do it yourself. There is a power accessory plug under the flyscreen, designed to be used for heated grips and/or GPS. It's an ignition-switched 12v source. You'll likely have to snip the connector off and wire it directly to whatever USB piece you get (USB is 5vDC). Wire it up, figure out where in the front end you want to mount the socket, and drill out a spot for it. |

Like Ratbuell says there is an accessory port already under your flyscreen. The Buell Ulysses has a 12V "cigarette" power outlet that plugs into the same connector. You can just get that, and plug in any USB phone charger or whatever else you would normally use in a car, then feed the wire through one of the gaps.

Thanks for that. I did go to the garage and look behind the fairing on both side, looking for a plug. Couldn't find it. Now before you label me as stupid, I looked through the manual and the electrical schematics, did find mention of an outlet, but saw no pics of it. If there is one there, I could just plug in one of my 12v/USB adapters and be done with it, but other then taking it back to Harley so they can show mr how stupid I was, I couldn't see it. That would make sense, heated handgrips. |

Go back to your bike, the flyscreen is the red piece above the headlight. It is secured by two Torx 30 screws. Remove the two screws, and it comes right off. That will expose some wiring, along with the accessory port, which is a two pin grey connector. It likely has a dummy plug in it to weatherproof the connection. This is not a CR, but I couldn't find a pic of it on a CR in my quick search. It looks like this

Thanks tons for this, Froggy! I'm so scared of taking things apart and not putting them together correctly. I'll give this a shot later tonight. |

Holy crap! That's what that thing is?? I never knew what that was. Let me see if I can furnish a pic (my bike is next to me in my mancave) Where do I get an attachment for it? Currently I have my usb cable routed all the way from the battery through the bike from up to the head.

Also, Jud, this bike is VERY hands on. Just dive right in and take it apart. Builds character... and bonding time. |

Thanks for all the input guys. I'm loathe to drill any holes or mess up the appearance of my bike in any way, so after seeing USB connectors that connect to the battery and the trickle charge connector, I think I'll go that route. I can affix it to the handlebars using zip ties, plus if I sell the bike or need to make a change, I can easily remove it. Was just looking at power options for my cell phone, which I'm buying a mount for. |

the plug in the socket as pictured - could the grommets be removed and wires fed in to make it a functioning plug? |

Barraspalding - I can't argue the price on that link, but for $15, I feel like this is still a pretty clean solution.
