Adding an free flowing air filter and a pipe to a fuel injected '02 S3,what kind of additional tuning is needed? What about just the filter? |

If you have a MAP PROGRAM, you can see right away weather it was a plus or minus change ... The other way is to install a FUEL/AIR GAUGE and the gauge will give the REAL WORLD plus or minus change as you ride ... |

I have a 2001 S3T Fuel injected. Was bone stock. First added the V and H SR2? pipe. Lost a small noticeable amount of power in midrange sounds very good except when doing 80 on the highway for an extended period of time (even with a full face helmet). Second I added a K and N filter. Gained back midrange, probably one 1-2 unnoticeable difference from stock. Bought a race ECM on Ebay. Have not installed it yet. Dont want to mess with it and not technical enough to do a TPMS reset. Me programming it using a Spy cable is out of the question. I still use a flip phone.... |

ECM spy is not complicated, where folks get in to trouble is that they make changes with out having backups of the prior version on hand. it is clearly stated in the manual that BEFORE you start "adjusting" make a copy of your ecm's files. random changing can ruin your ecm with out a backup, [ I "fixed" an ecm by doing nothing more than re-loading a good file ] A TPS adjustment is simply setting the closed point for the throttle position sensor. Once 0 is set the sensor is calibrated to the ecm, > until you wear it out, you move it on the shaft, or you move the ecm to another bike. the simple way warm up your bike's engine connect ecm spy to the machine and go on line, turn the idle screw back out until the throttle hangs slightly on open from close, ( you can let the throttle snap shut to get this once the stop is backed out all the way past rest ) use ecm spy to set zero adjust your idle stop now to about 7% open and fine tune while running from there. where folks go wrong is trying to adjust out problems with the bike by playing with the ecm, they usually make the bike not run at all. the DDFI system will adjust for minor changes to fueling needed for air filters and pipes, IF you go further I suggest a tune by a reputable shop, JT&S in CA are experts, Cycle Rama may be able to help you out east. |
