That prefers the later S2 fender (nearly identical the S3 fender) over the earlier, more form-fitting one? Al's carbon S2 fender is modeled after the earlier one; both of my S2s have/had the later style. I like the extra meat on the sides of the later one. |

Nope, you are not alone. I prefer the later S2 fender myself as well. The only reason I do not have one on my S2 now is that I've got a custom CF front fender from Al with red Kevlar flames (that match my painted '96 S2 front fender). A big reason why I like the later front fender is because I know firsthand the 'pain' that was involved with the early S2 front fender. Assembly/installation was a REAL PITA! You are NOT alone! 1313 |

I'm the opposite. I like the old version, have it on both of our S2's. Even have a spare just in case... |

Was that later S2 fender used in production or just replacement stock? DAve |

Production for most of the 96's if memory serves. |

I believe the early body S3s used the same fender as the late S2 fender as well. At some point, they switched to another design, which I believe is plastic. |

Early S2 fender = '95 only, polyester resin Late S2 fender = '96 only, epoxy resin S3 fender = '97-'02, plastic, though similar in appearance to the '96 S2 fender it is NOT the same part. It wouldn't surprise me if the '96 fender was used as a replacement part for the '95 fender, 1313 |

Well that clears things up. I thought HD was simply shipping S3 fenders as S2 replacements. Some pictures of the two versions side by side. Left-Late S2 Fender Right-Early S2 Fender

My original '95 fender felt heavy compared to the plastic-like feel of the later (S3 appearing) fender. It was very disheartening to me when I received it as a replacement after a spill on the S2. Back around 2000, I contacted Buell and was asked to send the damaged original to Buell. Bruce C hooked me up and repaired my fender to like-new condition. Another superb example of the Buell team and their customer focus. DAve (Message edited by Dave on August 13, 2014) |
