I know, I know, cruise control on a Buell, blasphamy... Hey, I'm planning on a few longer trips this summer... I was thinking about installing a Throttle Meister on my XB12R and was told they didn't have the 12R listed, just the 9R. I looked in my parts book and they seem to have the same throttle assy, was there any change between the '03 and '04 models??? Has anybody used any of the types of cruise controls or throttle locks that are out there??? The 'throttle meister' looks interesting, although expensive and the 'vista cruise' looks good also and cheaper although I don't know how much of a pain it would be to install... Thanks, Kevin |

No difference between the bars from '03-'04 on either bike from what I've seen. I've used the Throttlemeister on a big Kaw and it is a very well made piece, it's what I want for my XB9R also. So many wants, so little money. |

I have a Vista Cruise on my X1 and my buddy has one on his XB9R. Best $25 you'll ever spend! Frank |

Frank, got another couple of questions... I notice that they've got a couple of types of 'vista cruise', one's for honda dual cable and the other is for yamaha single or dual cable. Have any idea which one works on the XB's ??? Do you have to drill into the throttle housing??? Thanks to all, Kevin |

Kevin, We got the Yamaha model. I believe there is some info in the KV on installing it. That guy used some 2-sided tape from Radio Shack to hold it against the housing. We drilled a small hole and used a small nut/bolt to hold it. Only other thing is the cutting off of a small tab so the piece sits flat against the housing. Let me know if you need any photos. I would not do this, for obvious legal reasons and I would discourage anyone else from doing so. However, $10 bar ends that tighten with and allen screw, or a similar bar end mirror, can be used as a friction type cruise control. |

Just a fyi... I went ahead and bought a throttlemeister a few days ago. It looks nice and was easy to install, it took a few minutes and a couple of test rides to get it adjusted right but that's it. It also seems to knock down on the vibration in the bars. I finally got to use it yesterday during a couple of hours highway droning and it seemed to work well and was easy to use. Although it's a bit expensive, I would recommend it... I've got an XB12R and just told them I needed one for a 2003 XB9R, they don't have the 12 listed yet. Frank, thanks for the pics... Kevin |
