Just curious, if the bike is worth $4,800 only has 7,600 miles looks perfect. This will be my first bike. I have rode many different dirt bikes growing up, but want something versatile like the buell. |

That's a good price. It's a very good price if it has hard bags. |

Yes it has the 3 bags, looks very good. Since this is my first street bike the stance and riding style seems very user friendly coming from dirt bikes. |

Just a little nervous about the bad press about the 2006 model. Don't want to break down on a rode trip |

Seems like the most common issue with 06's was occasional wiring harness problems. Other than that, they have the same few things you need to watch out for on ALL Ulys. Check the "new owner's" section here: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442053.html?1238017122 There are still several 06 owners that hang out here that can give you more details if you need them. |

That seems to be a great buy. I paid like 10k for mine as a one year old demo model with about 900 miles. I can hardly wait to see the pics! There are things to learn if you want to become a successful Uly rider, and you seem like you do. This bike needs some love. It's not an attention . She just needs some love. A little bit of devotion from you and some help from us is all it takes. I'm willing. What about you? |

the 07's were the ones with crank issues - I have one of those. AFAIK the 06...pretty damned solid. Mine has over 30k trouble-free miles on it. I've broken two belts (I broke them; hard shifting a cold belt, totally my fault), and I replaced the fork springs with the progressive-rate 07 springs, but other than farkles...that's about it. Buy. Ride. Grin. Repeat.

To clarify, yes...I have a 30k mile 06...and a noisy-crank 07 (the "spare", lol). |

I wouldn't spend that much money on a 06. I got my 06 for $4k, back in 2008. Now a 9 year old motorcycle that has averaged only a few hundred miles a year? That is going to be a nightmare with rot, in addition the all the reliability issues of the 06 models. At $2k, or $3k tops it wouldn't be a bad deal because of the extra time and money and towing you will need to dump into it, but for almost 5 grand you can do WAY better. |

You would be hard pushed to get one at THAT price in the UK with the mileage, in good condition and the 3 cases. A used set of cases and the frames would cost at LEAST $500 alone here? Follow the advice of the folk here, do not work on the bike if you do not know how to use a spanner (learn to do it as it is worth the effort) and once everything is right you will think 5000 bucks was a good deal. |

My '06 only has 60,000+ miles so far. If someone offered me $6,000 the answer would easily be no. |

My 06 had 85K on it before I had any real issues. Just a voltage regulator and a front rotor. |

I know some of you Guys want 80k plus out of you bikes with no issues but that is not going to happen. The fact is that the Uly is, in some respects, over engineered compared to many other modern bikes. 80k on many Jap bikes and they just are not worth repairing. I think the Uly is the best built bike, for the most part, I have ever had at any price. The "core" of the bike is VERY solid but parts will wear over time. That is just the way it is with any mechanical part. Just do not get "hung up" on minor things. |

Brakes2late, what issues did you have after 85K? Mine has done 20K with just one belt at 12K. It's an 2006, first registered in 08. I don't ride it enough because I have another bike. Sorry, Uly man, it's a Jap inline four, which I'm certain will do more than 80K. Much more. |

mu 2006 Ulysses is NOT for sale!!! No price so don't bother asking! It has over 40,000 miles on it and it's trouble free and a real blast to ride! |

That's good to hear, Cyclonedon. I hope mine is over the next 20K (apart from the belt). |

Between 85K and 88K I had to replace the 5th gear shaft bearing, clutch cable and stator. 5th gear shaft bearing being the biggy of course. The inner row of ball bearings looked fine but the outer row was toast. I found it during a belt change, so it is not attributable to a new/tight belt. My guess would be starvation. It wouldn't be such a big deal if they had made that bearing serviceable from the outside, which doesn't seem like it would have been all that hard to engineer. |

Kawasaki did the same *&*& thing. I had to replace that same (though much simpler) bearing on a KDX-200, and they also made it such that it can only be replaced from inside the cases. |

Anyone interested in buying the original buell hard cases not really a big fan of them just to drive the bike locally? |

Brakes2late, are you talking about the output shaft? Doesn't the needle bearing next to it run on oil mist? My bike has had a grease nipple fitted to eliminate any possibility of oil starvation. I wonder if we're talking about the same thing? Other than that that you've had a good run. Clutch cables are nothing. Stators are expensive but they go in a lot of bikes, Hondas included. You've had no engine problems. Do you still have the bike? If so, how many miles has it got on it? |
