Mookie what ya need is a K&N RECHARGER filter care service kit.It contains a cleaner and oil to retreat your filter. You can buy them at your dealer or right through Daves or Bubba. The kit costs about $12.00 and its good for several cleanings. |

That is if you have th eK&N Filter. If you have a stock filter the best you can do is blow air through the filter from the inside (throttlebody side) out. It should blow alot of the clogging off the filter material. If you use the K&N kit on a stock filter it will gum up the works and restrict the airflow more. |

Mookies profile suggests that he has the race kit so he would have the K&N. |

quick warning for those that may not have read the instructions pertaining to the K&N air filter. " DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN K&N FILTER WITH COMPRESSED AIR " compressed air will damage the filter element, and render it capable of passing large chunks of debris into your engine. |

FP is correct, but I personally apply this theory to all air filters. |

Read the container before ya clean it.Otherwise you may ruin your filter. |

Mine wasn't directed to mookie but to anyone that thought they could use the filtercharger kit to clean their stock filter. I have seen what happens to the filter when someone does that and the mess of the throttlebody it can make. |

or you can use the duct tape method, where you just run a gob of duct tape through the filter, and the adhesive stickies up all the dirt. i have not actually seen this method in person, but someone here is trying it. |

you can use Simple Green to Clean it, but use the K&N oil to "recharge" it.... kk//kef |

Why go through all the trouble? Why not just buy a new one? They can't be that expensive. Are they? Charles |

Because the stock filter won't flow as much as the K&N filter. |

I got the k&n recharger kit for my bike after suggestion. I have cleaned it and reoiled it. Im not sure if its supposed to be white again after cleaning but i thought i did a pretty good job and then oiled it pretty good. now im waiting for my new lid to arrive so that I can go test my clean air filter with my new 12 airbox. btw. it seems that my fuel line is too long with the 12 airbox. I had no problem shortening it as i started to convince myself that if the fuel now needs to go that much shorter to get to the engine, I will be going faster just that much quicker |

The filters for my 12 are I think $14.00 so it really will pay for it self by buying the K&N.The recharger kits go from $10-$12.Call Daves or Bubba. |

Hey Mookie, That "fuel line" you are referring to is just a vent tube, if I'm not mistaken. Shortening it shouldn't hurt anything. Rich |

Yeah if you are talking about the flexible tubing that drapes over the air cleaner cover, that is the fuel vent tube not the fuel line. You probably just pulled it up too high when you took off the air cleaner cover. The XB9 and XB12 air cleaner covers are the same size. You need enough length on it so that the exit end (rigid plastic tubing) is routed through the clamp inside the left foot peg bracket. Once the air cleaner cover is back on, you need to push the fuel vent tube through from the airbox down. Make sure it points straight down and extends as far down as it can. If the tube exits back toward the swingarm, the swingarm finish may get discolored or damaged after a while by gasoline vapor and the occasional squirt of liquid gasoline. edited by xb9er on March 04, 2004 |
