Purflux LS907, for Ford Windstar 3.0, Chrysler pt cruiser, 300C, Dakota 3.7, etc etc. http://www.sogefifilterdivision.com/catalogues/FO/ scripts/cat_fich_filtre.php?zone=FR&catalogue=PFX& lang=GB It's what I use on the M2, twice the capacity of the OE stock filter. |

You can get about 85 pages on this one but I just use Mobil 1 15/50 everywhere. Use whatever you like but don't use the Mobil 1 Gear Oil as it contains sulphur (or sulfur, if you prefer) which will eat the stator in very short order. I understand the Harley parts guys are on an anti-Amsoil kick which is just nonsense. I guess synthetics have to be made by Citgo to be any good? Citgo makes Syn3 if you didn't know. Mr. Grumpy, Are you doing anything to secure the filter? I've seen hose clamps and safety wire with the long ones. (Message edited by SteveFord on October 05, 2013) |

Nope, clean surface, a smear of oil, spin it on then as tight as my poor old hand can get it. Never had one come undone yet. Edit, I use cheapo 20W50 mineral oil which I change every 5000 ish with the filter. Just to make things clear, around these parts if I want 20W50 it's either the bottom shelf of the supermarket or an HD dealer. The supermarket oil at €11 for 5l is above the spec listed in the manual & less than the price of 1l at the Stealership. (Message edited by Mr_grumpy on October 05, 2013) |

I was under the impression if you were running same oils in gearbox and engine it had to be full synthetic(for the gearbox). Am I mistaken? Granted I was told this by the harleyl dealer themselves and actually the head mechanic there is very buell competent he owns 3 himself. |

It might be an issue if you have a seal swapping fluids but that's the only reason I can think of. Harley sells Form+ for the primary/gearbox which works really well but I really don't like giving Harley any money for obvious reasons. When they said it was okay to run their Syn3 in the gearbox I figured I might as well just use Mobil 1 in there. So far, so good although I'm getting more metal shavings on the drain plug on the Useless at the 75,000 mile mark than looks healthy. |
