Yesterday I was riding my 2006 July and my turn signals stopped flashing. All bulbs would light up but no flashing. Today the turn signals don't even light up. Checked the fuse and it was OK, pulled the front screen and checked connections on the flasher unit. I got the turn signals to light up but no flashing. Am I safe to say it's just a bad flasher unit or should I also look at the thumb switch prior to ordering a new flasher module. |

you can pop the lid off of the gilera unit. Perhaps you will see an easy fix. |

Nate, What are you referring to -- "gilera unit"?? I also have an intermittent turn signal and/or turn signal indicator problem. |

Well I went out, pooped off the cover and took a picture.
To my horror, I found out that they improved the design since my 2000 X1. It's glued shut!
You can still open it but my X1's flasher was more easy to pop open than childproof medicine bottles. As I recall, my X1 was crapping out because it was vibing all over the place. The metal mounting tab had gotten loose. I opened it up, resoldered what needed soldering and epoxied the tab onto the cover. I did this repair at work because I was going on a vacation directly from work. The repair was a "good for now" but so far has lasted pretty much a decade |

Nate, Thanks for the clarification. My problem seems to be only on the right turn signal, so I don't think it's the flasher (gilera unit). Maybe the switch (left hand control)? |

Cyclonedon, Check the steering head grounds. My turnsignals crapped out once and I luckily found that one of the steering head ground wires was was broken off and that touching that wire to ground made the signals start flashing as intended. Fixed that ground and no more problem. (Message edited by electraglider_1997 on August 21, 2013) |

it was my flasher unit. I went to th local auto zone and they have one that will work. It was a A35 or K35 which I don't remember now but you can google it and find it. EG, I had my Uly in the shop earlier this year with electrical problems. The turn signals didn't work or the low beam headlight wouldn't work. The dealer discovered that when I wired my headlights to have both on, it burned out my ignition switch causing my electrical problems. I had them replace the ignition switch and change my headlights back to the standard factory set wiring and all is good now. |
