Fouled plugs (in my experience) just make the bike hard to start and make it miss at low RPM. And if you can get the bike started and run it hard for an hour or so, they will often self clean. My 9sx went 25k miles with no problems on the stock plugs. I replaced them then because I had the motor rotated for other reasons and just felt guilty... they still looked and worked great. |

When was the last time you changed the plugs? They're cheap and, once you've come up with the right combination of socket/extension/universal(swivel), they're not hard to change. So, it's worth changing them just to see if it helps. |

Did another freeway run to reset.... Seems to have worked again. My problem or concern is that it has happened again.... There must be a underlying cause somewhere..... Thanks all |

The TPS can "drift" over time but that would, or should be, a long time. "Has a surge at steady throttle in any gear at any speed". Does it still do that because if it does it should not? Do the TPS reset and note the volts someplace for a latter date. It should be 5.2 to 5.6 volts ish at 1050 rpm and a hot engine. If it does this again see if the volts have changed any. Maybe the idle cable is working loose. Check for throttle shaft wear and that the TPS is not loose or has been moved. You may have a bad TPS. Check the paint spot. Check for bad wires/plugs and the battery sub frame post for paint on its surface. What is your AFV number. It is set at 80 - 110 I think and any place between that is fine. But as said it is set for sea level. 5k ft is high 8k ft is very high. The higher you go the less O2 and the richer the bike will run. The AFV will adjust the fuel over the base map via the O2 sensor for this but I do not know the limits on this set up. You can change it though. |
