Not the thing you want to see the night before you are leave on a two state road trip!

I got lucky, my bike uses the older TPS sensor which is compatible with the 93 Mustang TPS. Found one at the local Autozone, swapped it out and did the reset.

Before the swap, my idle was always a bit weird/erratic and the bike would act up from time to time. It was also extremely rough around 3k.

After the swap, my idle is great! Did almost 1000k miles over 2.5 days and not one hiccup. Ran smooth at 3k and slow speeds.

Like a new bike. =]

Someone was just saying in another post that these almost never go bad. Glad I have the older Uly that uses the mustang one too.

Yup, I'm not sure how long it's been exposed. I think I'm going to open it up and see what's going on.

Nice going Red450. I'm only surprised that it wasn't cross referenced from a John Deere tractor. Does it matter which size mustang engine it goes to??

I used Duralast TPS213.

The Buell TPS is around $90, the Duralast cost me $35 at AutoZone.

Hey Red, I ended up using the Buell TPS which i purchased from Al at American Sportbike because i was ordering some other things from them. Was costly, now they are going for 90 bucks.

I know i purchased my O2 sensor from Autozone for my Uly. Believe thats a GM sensor??

My Uly was bucking and cutting out something bad. I found out it was the TPS by using ECM Spy. I saw that the TPS was cutting out. I then back probed the TPS wires at the ECM with a meter and it was showing more of a voltage swing compaired to the ECM stream. So the ECM stream from ECM SPy is delayed. I pulled the airbox and saw the wire on the TP. Hope your trip is a good one!

Red450 you may want to invest the time in something like Tuner Pro, for the future, as this would have shown up this problem from the start. You will need it for the TPS resets on a 06 bike anyway.

Oh and if it has not been done yet clean the paint off the subframe battery post point.

The question is was your problem really the sensor or was it not properly "pre-loaded". Could be you only needed to pre-load the original sensor and it would have cured it. When you installed the new one you probably pre-loaded it and it cured your problem. I had to remove, clean and reinstall and pre-load the spring to cure my stumble. Just a thought. I mean nobody likes to see bare wire sticking out of anything but before everybody runs out and buys new sensors they might want to pre-load the sensor and then zero the tps giving them a true zero. Oh, and for Vern's sake, clean you butterfly first!!

My 09 is having similar issues, it takes a different (more expensive) tps. I'm going to try an Auto Zone TPS4129. Just replaced the O2 sensor with a Bosch 12014 from AZ. $17.99

Tootal, I had tried the "true zero" before and it did help. So when my bike started acting up again, I did the process again after checking the timing. There was minimal improvement this time.

So I moved to the next step, replacement. I don't mean to imply this is a fix all for people but @ $35 it's a cheap bet.

No worries. Even after the swap, I was still paranoid once we left on the trip but after the first hour of smooth riding, I relaxed and let the worry go.

It really does run better than when I brought it home.

Man, amazing how you can have an issue and come here and theres already something in the feed to give you the solution. I've noticed the kinda missing feeling the way the engine was running at 3k but wasn't to concerned until my bike puttered out and backfired mid turn today. Such an awful feeling. Well, this seems to be my problem too. If you guys think otherwise please let me know. This is my first post. Thanks!

Have you done a TPS reset? If not, I would start there. Also a good idea to clean your IAT if you haven't done a breather reroute.

Welcome to the board smackrage.
I suggest looking directly into the throttle body and make sure your shaft hasn't broken.
