I have been interested in bags for my '06 Ulysses. Happy trails said the larger bags they have won't work due to limitations on the strength of the tail section. I would prefer larger bags than they suggest would work. Anyone have any insight on this? |

If you look at factory brackets you'll see they tie in (triangulate) to the passenger foot peg supports. Extra support. |

I have googled the hell out of "XB12X weak tail section" I can not find any evidence of the tail being weak or hazardous. What is the largest bags you guys are running? Oh...btw getting the bike out of storage today! |

I run the three stock Hepco/Becker bags. Don't tell anyone, but the wife and I, who somehow tally over 500 lbs with gear , had fifty pounds of crap in each side bag with at least fifteen more pounds in the top bag, for an 800 mile weekender, two up ride. I believe that is a fair test as to why it did not come up when googled. It shows no sign of weakness that I know of. |

Givi E45's top and sides, on Fehling racks. No issues noted. Except an even greater tendency to wheelie when loaded (Message edited by dtaylor on March 29, 2013) |

HT's limitation is probably more due to the racks...than the tail section. I've also FAR outdone the GVWR between me, passenger, stuffed sidebags and upsized/stuffed topcase WITH a packed luggage rack. There's a reason the factory says "don't install a topcase without sidecase brackets", brackets that tie into the passenger pegs for triangular support. Find some stock brackets, and get some bags that fit Hepco-Becker mounts. Problem solved. The Uly tail is NOT "weak", if you put the right brackets on it. |
