Yep, the hot water toss in the morning has become a ritual around my house. Its really cold, too cold to work on the bikes, I had to rescue the batteries last week. My kids swear they have been snowblowing twice a day all week but I always end up having to do it again when I get home from work. I was in 4WD all the way from Sault Saint Marie, MI to Eureka on Tuesday. Gas prices were only $1.58 up there, go figure. |

M2me, I believe the physics explanation is that the more drastic the temperature change would be the reason between cold water and warm water. Remember the 3 states of matter, solid, liquid and gaseous. You could experiment trying boiling water and ice water. Boiling water is 212 deg F and ice water would be about 35 deg F. Got pictures? Curious about the coffee. What happens to the dark stuff? Additional pollution? You really don't want my weather report from California, do you? Ok, 60 deg every day for the last 3 weeks and don't see any change in the weather patterns. I think Spring is here! edited by kaese on January 28, 2004 |

I believe the the change from liquid to vapor is called sublimation. (In refrigeration biz) We use the same procedure to remove moisture from refrigeration systems by using a vacuum to lower the pressure in the system. It lowers the boiling point of water causing it to vaporize and leave the system through the vacuum pump. Enough physics for the nite. It's COLD outside. Just think in 5 months it will be riding season full out |

Morning all. Just thought I would update the post here and let you all know we survived the night. This morning it is -37C or -34F. Got quite warm during the evening Ha Ha. Still it feels like it warmed a lot more than just 7.9 degrees. Hard to believe the weather will change enough in about 75 days to be nice enough to drive the machine. Have a great one all. Just for your info it was -44.9C and -48.8F yesterday. |

M2Me, Car thermo read -21 this AM. I was going to try the hot water thing by standing on the roof and taking a whizz but I was afraid something might break off!!! |

It's a balmy -3F (-22F wind chill) in Waterloo, IA. This is cold enough. It's hard to imagine the -50F that Thunderbox has. |

It doesn't suck. It usually blows and dumps, but rarely sucks unless you open a door too fast. |

Man I'm really starting to get bummed. It's 39* F here but more snow is on its way, they say. Nobody in or near the valley can really predict the weather well here anyway. I only have 800 miles on my bike and I've had it going on 3 months now. Does anyone have a set of chains for a XB9S? I really want to ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

We picked up my wife's Blast on December 23. So far, she's managed to put 46 miles on it. I haven't been on my bike since New Years Day. There's just too much ice and salt on the roads. Gearloose, I saw that same monkey running down the street holding onto his crotch. |

Oh and Coolice, sublimation is the transition from solid to vapor without a intermediate liquid state. The way that frost free fridges keep the frost off and the food froze. |

Here's a quote from the StarTribune:
quote:Just how cold was it in the Twin Cities today? It was so cold that the St. Paul Winter Carnival's Ice Palace -- the ICE PALACE, for crying out loud -- was closed for the morning. The temperature in the Twin Cities dropped to 24 below zero this morning, continuing the streak of bitter cold that began on Tuesday but falling short of the record low for the day.
But the first day of spring is only 50 days away! |
