Does anybody have any experience with rechargeable battery heated gear. I don't want to overload the system on my 08', so I've been looking around for a vest. I've found some different options such as, http://www.bobscycle.com/browse.cfm/4,118567.html , http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/67/904/427 66/ITEM/Venture-Heated-Clothing-7-4-Volt-Heated-Ba se-Top.aspx , http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/67/904/427 68/ITEM/Venture-Heated-Clothing-7-4-Volt-Heated-Ve st.aspx . It doesn't really get too much below 40 where I live. Any opinions or experience would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike |

Mike, I'd go with Gerbings. They have brought back from China some of their product line and is now being made here in the U.S.A. Good gear! |

Go with Gerbings. Get thermostat-controlled system. Start bike, get it warmed up and move off before turning on your heated gear. Sunny uses her Gerbing's heated gear on her 1984 VF500 without any problem. I doubt you'd have any problem with your 08 electrical load BUT you need to use thermostatic control - and NOT just variable resistor. That way you're not constantly drawing power. She's been using the gear in Winter now about 4 seasons and on the 25 year old charging system is doing just fine. Keep in mind, the Gerbing system is hooked directly TO the battery with its own fuse so that really simplifies the installation. (some more experienced eletrical types may chime in to correct my statements above about power) |

You are right about the power, provided its a series regulator on the heated gear, which it most certainly is. And unfortunately, I don't think there are many (any?) thermostats out. Most of what I saw was simply a power control (variable duty cycle switching regulator). |

I would go for the jacket liner Gerbings your arms will get cold to. If I remember right there only 75 Watts had no trouble with my 08R. I did change my tail light to the 010 LED light and the T194 bulbs to LED 1 W each all 3 of them. That saved me some watts and brighter to. One yr. no problems. |

Thanks for the input guys. My dad uses gerbing gear too. I'll probably go for the heated jacket liner and the thermostat. Grand total of 300 bucks and 77W, but worth it. |

I ran heated grips, gloves, jacket and pants off my '08 when I rode on the street and never had a charging or battery issue. |

motorcycle gear.com ( used to be "New Enough" gear) has a "sale" on First Gear brand heated gear: http://www.motorcyclegear.com/browse/best_deals don't know if it is a resistive temp control or a true thermostat- might want to chk them out... good luck |

phlegm: I run a jacket and gloves on my '08 IF you do not run the high beams and the heated gear is not wfo its ok. Get the Gerbings heat troller ( pulsed control ) it works well and you will stay toasty in 40F with jacket and gloves. The jacket will require about the same extra wattage as the high beams, I have taken measurements until you have it all up and all on you are ok.... |
