After this whole ordeal with a mechanic powder coating my bike.. I get this weird problem that occurs low rpms of any gear as well as in idle. Seems like the bike will lose its spark every half a second in the 1k-2.5k range. I took it to a dealer who checked the grounds and replaced the plugs(one of which was fouled). From then on it seemed okay, but about 1.5k miles later it seems to be returning. Could I be already fouling the plugs again? What's going on? Here's an old video when it was really bad. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSB1-CZENVs&list=UU 8YfMpMv-cUiF2yEB2iNjfA&index=1&feature=plcp |

I'm not sure if these problems are related, but the bike also seems to be running either lean or rich. It seems to run better when it is cold rather than hot/warmed. I can occasionally smell fuel, and the exhaust sometimes backfires/creates a popping noise when accelerating or first starting the bike up. And whoever runs the polished silver ceramic coated pipes from American Sport Bike knows that parts of the pipe WILL become opaque by the front cylinder, but mine seems to be creeping to the center of the pipes(because the pipes are getting extra hot?). There also seems to be a knocking noise coming from the push rods/hydraulic lifters. Can they even MAKE knocking noises? HELP (Message edited by timmyj on July 22, 2012) |

Ever had the tps reset? |

Interesting that there is no backfiring. That suggests a fuel problem rather than a spark problem. Which is further supported by your "running hot" (which means running lean) observations. Have you checked the fuel pump and wiring? |

What wires should I be pointing at for the Harley/Buell dealership? What's a TPS reset? I have not checked the fuel pump as I'm not mechanically inclined I'm going to have to point to this as well. I really appreciate the posts. |

Spark plug wires TPS reset is a throttle position sensor reset and must be done with ecm spy or an equivilent there of perhaps someone in the great state of fornicalia can hep a fella out? |

Yeah... plug wires/coil/ground... If not there then go for TPS and then intake seals. The plug wires are kinda easy to destroy. |

Okay.. I'll have them check those. -Fuel pump -Coils -Plug wires (if not) -Intake seals -Throttle position sensor This seems pretty straight forward. I'll update if anyone would like me to. |

Does the tach ever leap *up* when it's stuttering? Like by 1000 RPM? |

1000 RPM? Isn't that idle? But no, I haven't experienced that. It only misfires and drops in rpm spontaneously. |

Sorry, that wasn't clear. What I mean is the bike is running fine and steady at say 3000 RPM, and at the same time the motor stutters, the tach jumps up to 4000 rpm briefly. If it does, then I believe it is indicative of a cam position (which is really a crank position) sensor problem. What was powder coated? That makes me think you have a bad ground somewhere. |
