I'm changing out the ECM in my Uly and am having a tough time getting the plugs out of the sockets on the ECM. Any tips would be appreciated--I don't want to use too much force and break something, but I can't get them to budge. |

I think you need to squeeze the locking pieces to free them up, pretty easy once you've done it, hard to describe though. Like explaining how to tie your shoe, easy once you know. |

The connectors are watertight, therefor stubborn by nature. Squeeze the clip, and pull straight back, it gently wiggle if you have to, but avoid doing that. |

Thanks for the replies--I've been pretty much doing as described, but they are truly stubborn. |

Make sure you are squeezing the clips, as Froggy stated. If not completely released, you will not be able to pull the plugs. |

Sometimes it helps to push them in before pulling on them. |

I ended up using a zip tie to hold the clips down and worked the plug out by gentle side to side movements and pulling as hard as I could. After this, they come out much easier. They had never been pulled in 30 K miles. Now if I could just find a replacement ECM that actually works... |

Forgive a possible dumb question, but will the EBR racing ECM work on a totally stock Uly? |

Some years they don't sell the EBR ECM for a stock Uly. When I wanted one for my stock '07, they didn't have it (they said the stock ECM is just as good). If it's not on their web site they don't offer it. What's up with your old one? If it's cracked you can tape it or try to repair and get by for awhile. I lasted about 3 or 4 months without any symptoms by taping it up with stretchy silicon tape (it looked ugly, but worked) and relocating it. Eventually I lucked out and found a working used one for about $50. |

I've sealed up the crack right where the socket joins the body of the ECM with Permatex and relocated it, so I have to do a long shakedown run to see if that helped. It has to get good and hot before it does it; the last time I barely made it the last hundred yards to my garage. Power would cut out, come back with CEL on, fuel pump and AMC would cycle, then cut out again in rapid succession. And no codes at all. I got a used ECM that was cracked worse and made the bike run worse. Now it's time to try the old one relocated. |

Reason # 13,467 why BadWeb is worth more than you can afford to pay for membership: I learned through someone here that if your bike is less than 5 years old, the EPA has a mandatory warranty period on emissions parts for 5 years. Consult your owners manual for more information on it but last fall, I got a new ECM through an H-D warranty claim for free. The unit arrived blank (no programming, which I was told is normal) and, thankfully, the Buell tech at my dealership had a solid, well sorted-out ECM image that worked better than my original OEM image. If you are having problems with one, its always worth asking about a replacement. What's the worst thing they'll say? No? (Message edited by 7873jake on June 24, 2012) |

Thanks for all of the input. It still does it after the ECM patch up and relocation. The idle RPM intermittently falls once the bike is warm, which accounts for most of the stalls, but it cut out at over 65 mph once as well, while running in 80 deg. temperatures. It's an '06, so probably beyond the EPA warranty period. I looked all over eBay and various classifieds--new stock Uly ECMs are hard to find it seems. |

KvDog, I just recently bought an EBR ECM for a completely stock Uly even though it wasn't an option on the website.. Email them and let them know what you want. Be sure to tell them that you are only looking to replace a bad ECM and aren't expecting any performance gains. |

Mine is an '06, too. |

EBR lists a pre-programmed stock ECM for XB12 2004-2010. At their website, Search parts by model and scroll to the bottom...... |

Unless I'm missing something here, these appear to be for after-market exhaust configurations. |

I don't see it. You will have to email them for one for stock programming. |
