Have any of you experienced idling problems with XB12 models? Seems to stall repeatedly when cold and less when hot. The bike surges at low rpm at steady speed and has poor throttle response off idle. The bike has set an AFV of 105.3% and has 25 miles on it. The factory has suggested putting more miles on it, has anyone else experienced this or have a solution? |

Honu, I have not heard of this with any of the 9's. On some of the XB's, 9's or 12's, I've seen the timming out a few degrees and has cured the ridability issue when reset. |

Gootch I had the same problems on my 12. Somebody on a different thread spoke of the engine management system not "learning" until you rev over 3grand for a few miles. My bike got better with time but it got a lot better after break in when I could run it harder. Also the idle speed adjustment appears important. ' |

MY XB12R STALL FOR THE FIRST 100MLS. BUT AFTER THAT IT RUN VERY NICE.THE FIRST TUNE-UP IS DONE EXCEPT FOR THE TPS . |

Thanks guy's, our demo has had the same issue and it cleared up after some mileage. I still find it stalls easily when cold. Looks like most XB12 owners are experiencing the same thing. I'll have to mention to new owners what to expect. Thanks, Stuart Wells. |

My XB12 had idle problems. It never stalled, but the idle speed would vary. The factory replaced the throttle body assembly. MikeO |

Rode a 46mi 12R this afternoon in glorious 50deg weather. It seemed to run OK though it did stall out after a long hard stop. that's just horrible. 5th gear on the 12 is so totally not needed unless booking over 80mph. I guess I completely forgot about breakin. I was spinning it no less than 3500 RPM and normally well into the 5's and 6K's. 3K rpm felt like I was chugging. I thought the 9 was touchy, the 12 is more so. It just seems the technological pitfalls inharent to using MotorCompany parts can not be wished away. It was impossible to be smooth on the machine to the degree practically any big4 bike allows regardless of it's MSRP. I wish there was a way to get the engineering team's attention. Some stupidly easy changes could have made the bike so totally more awesome. Like an adjustable clutch lever (what $50?), stiffer throttle spring to tone throttle action down coupled with far less sensitivity on the FI to minute input. Unwanted throttle input -> unwanted chassis input -> unwanted throttle input. Zero-driveline lash is IMO not such a great idea. If you're going to have it then you have to build in "slop" or "tolerance" some place else. Oh well, I'll wait for the RST version. Or get independantly wealthy and make my own. |

Pattonme, thanks for your constructive criticism. The question had been answered by allowing the XB12 more mileage to set an AFV. 5th gear not needed, I often find I'm searching for a 6th. Being smooth is the object to the game. I admit the throttle responce is touchy, but this is a chracteristic of the 12 and you'll get used to it. |

Me too Gootch, but then the highways here cruise at 85...I haven't noticed a touchy throttle problem with my 12 but 6th would be very nice. I wish I had a spare case to play around with so I could try and fit the Baker 6... I do have to agree about the adjustable shift lever. The new rearsets let me set the shift lever right where my foot hangs so the peg just touches my foot in its relaxed position. |

If you are having "idle problems" please note the specification for idle speed is 1050-1150 rpm with engine hot. try setting your idle speed to the upper end of this range, see if that has a positive effect. let us know if this helps..........dean |

I agree with Gootch on this. Both my brother and I had idle issues with our XB12s's, and found that after 100miles all was fine. Wish I was in a country where the weather was better so I could get out and ride more at this time of year (livin' in the UK). Major salt on the roads that eats your bike alive! So those that can, get out and get some serious miles on those clocks and you'll find they just get sweeter day by day! Merry Christmas! Chris |

Thanks Fullpower, we have tried this and the idle hangs up at 1150, takes a while to idle down. We have done all the recommendations the factory suggests and have found that putting more miles on the bikes solves the problem.
