Hi all, I have the front end apart to fix an electrical problem. The gauges & dash lights would cycle off when the bars were turned full right. I found the broken wire & fixed that issue. Now for my question.

This fall while on vacation, we hit a lot of rain. It rained all day & the bike sat in the rain all night. When we left the next morning, it sounded like the starter drive was staying engaged. After I started several times it stopped and has never done it again. I am wondering if there is anything I should check out while I have the wiring harness out where I can get to it. Sorry for the ramble!

Thanks, Murf

I had an 87 BMW K-series bike (briefly) that would do the same thing in the wet.

Turns out the starter button would hang when it was wet, engaging the starter for longer than it should have. I pulled the switch gear apart and cleaned and lubed the mechanisms and it didn't come back again before the bike sold.

I haven't encountered it on the Buell.

Look for a wire insulation worn through on an edge on a plastic part or across another wire.

The wire shorts that I have found that only happen when wet have been bared wire on plastic.
