Any help would be much appreciated

this is what happened to my cluster on a ride the rev needle suddenly dropped to 500rpm at idle when it usually idles at 1400rpm (what the engine was still idling at)

i thought that was funny so i carried on and then gave it a rev under load to the limiter then it would idle at below 0rpm when the engine was still at 1400rpm

any one else had this problem is it buggered or is it just loose???

Forged, I had the exact same problem about six months ago, the needle has slipped/moved on the tach gear. I think mine was reading 0 when idling and wound hit the rev limit about 1300rpm before it was supposed to but obviously was right but the indication on the tach was wrong, easiest way to tell is if when off your tach needle is below the zero on the cluster, mine was somewhere between the zero and the LCD read out, normally when the bike is off the needle should sit/rest on zero. The fix is a new cluster, mine was under warranty but still took about two months to arrive, when connecting the new one you will see a timer on the LCD of 30 minutes, once 30 minutes of riding is done the new cluster will be sync'd to yourECM and will then read the correct mileage for your bike, when it happened to me I put up a post on here and it seems to be fairly common.

The bike will run without a cluster, so yes, you can use any aftermarket cluster you want provided you can wire it up.

You will lose access to some functionality, though. Error codes and diagnostic mode come to mind...

When my cluster went toast on my track bike I ran it without one for a while.

Used clusters are worthless unless you're capable of disassembling and re-flashing them.

You get one shot at installing a new cluster. Once the 30 minute countdown expires it mates with the ECM. It can only do this once.

New cluster costs $275 from P&A. You have no other options unless you can disassemble/fix your cluster.

OK, I'll revise:

Used clusters are worthless if you want to maintain full functionality.

Forged, if I were in your shoes, I'd try opening up the cluster to see if I could fix it. You've got nothing to lose by doing that, and you might be able to avoid buying a new cluster.

Depends ; )

A used cluster will reflect the wrong mileage, even as it will continue to accrue correctly.

Other than that, it works perfectly!

So if i were to buy an 09 1125cr cluster its shows 2k miles on it, will it work perfectly with my 2010 1125cr which has 10k kms (kms/ from New Zealand) other than displaying the incorrect millage?

Also pretty new so timebandit whats P&A?

Has anyone opened a cluster, as i took of the screws and it is still not wanting to open up???

By the way I have only just swapped to the following ebr barker ecm, barker exhaust, resistor plug less than 600kms before the cluster broke.

Would this have anything to do with malfunction?

A used cluster will reflect the wrong mileage, even as it will continue to accrue correctly.

Accrual of improper mileage is, by definition, incompatible with full functionality.

Dealer. If u don't care about accurate mileage (track bike) any used will do.

A used cluster will reflect the wrong mileage, even as it will continue to accrue correctly.

so what im reading a second had cluster will work and function perfectly other than sync the correct kms which the bike has traveled eg the bike has done 6k miles and the new cluster which has done 2k miles will read 2k miles when installed (however will the second hand cluster continue to accrue millage after it has been installed ?)

Forged, you are correct, just like just about any other speedometer be it car or bike.

If you want to buy a new one, it is part number Y0500.3AMA for 2010 models. Not sure on the availability and cost to get it to NZ for you, but I can assure you it isn't cheap and it will take a while.

I had the same issue: Needle of tacho/rev counter bottomed out to the LCD display. I did repair it myself, but it takes about 2 hours with special tools to open the Instrument Cluster. It is extremely fiddly, but I can do this for others for £ 80, excluding P&P. N.b. This is only for the tacho needle. It will save you to go to a HD Dealership that will charge you about £320 for a new IC. If anyone is interested, send me an email.
