Got a Uly a while back and was a bit timid about putting bags or cases on it, now that I realize how useful bags would be, I was wondering what is the best solution for bags that are inexpensive, easy to mount, and look decent. Any help would be great. Josh |

There's a guy on adv selling a full set of buell oem bags for <$500, you won't find anything hard of decent quality for less than that. |

You may as well get the "inexpensive" thing out of your head. Not gonna happen unless you find a killer deal on some used ones somewhere. I do not have side cases because the support rack looks hideous without the bags hiding it (IMHO), and for 90% of my riding I would not want the cases mounted to the bike. I do use a small top case mounted to the beaver tail bought on sale for $30 or $40 IIRC. It is large enough to hold a helmet or my riding jacket and pants. If soft luggage is an option, that could be fairly cheap. For a more premium soft luggage look, at one time you could get a rack designed for soft bags and some Mojave bags from Happy Trails for about $400 if they still sell them. A rack and mounting hardware for hard side cases will run you about $350 (also from Happy Trails), then your choice of case can run anywhere from $400 to $1000 for a new pair. I do not know what the OEM stuff would run you. |

Yeah, figured luggage wouldn't be cheap, softbags are okay, but I was figuring hardbags for a long trip, something that locks. Still, are there any good ideas for hardbags that are a good value?? Josh |

I pieced together the factory setup (all 3 bags and racks) for under $500. Bags and rear rack were used, side racks new from dealer, hardware from Ace Hdwr. I think that's pretty cheap....but might take some patience waiting for the right deal. |

I pieced the factory racks in time, and went with two pelican cases. Total money I was just under $300. |

Hmmm, pelican cases, I wonder how well they would match barricade orange?? |

One of our SC members used a set of ammo cans for bags. I imagine fabricating the bracketry to hold them would set you back as much as a store-bought set of bags if you don't have the skills to do it yourself. |

I second Buewulf, the racks look terrible without the bags and the all set cost a lot for an eventual use. Check my set up of soft bags on the pics.

Diggin the softbag look, as for ammo cans..... I guess I would have to see what I'm workin with as far as the brackets go, but could probably mount them, I have a few layin around. I imagine the pelican cases hold more but ammo cans would look awesome!!! Josh |

Best looking set of soft luggage I've seen. What are those? |

I can see using soft side cases because I only use side cases for trips. But for me, the top case has to be hard and have keyed security. I use mine constantly and being able to lock it is paramount. Last thing I need to be worrying about is someone ripping me off while I'm working out. Because with a soft top case with no locks you know that someone will just walk off with it or open and take whatever you got in there. This world is chock full of low life scum sucking thieves. Population control is the only answer to that. Time for soylent green. (Message edited by electraglider_1997 on October 18, 2011) |

Having leather bags on my Dyna and the hard bags on the Uly, I definitely like the hard bags. I don't mind at all that the stock bags are not top loaders. I can fit my riding jacket, gloves, and helmet in the bags, lock them up and not worry about them. I can also carry quite a bit of stuff in them from the store or whatever. I take my bike to the gym quite often and I use the Buell bag as my gym bag. Works very well. I don't worry about what the bike looks like without the bags covering the racks, as the bags are hardly ever off the bike. I do wish I had the Outdoorsman bags and racks, however. The side bags are smaller than my Journeys, but I like the looks better and better water resistance. I'd buy the Outdoorsman bags, but I understand that they don't fit correctly on my Journey racks. |

"I don't worry about what the bike looks like without the bags covering the racks, as the bags are hardly ever off the bike." +1, right there with ya Dynasport. If I'm traveling, or giving the bike a good bath are the only times mine are off the bike. Those are some fine looking soft bags, Rcf2. I lived with soft bags for a couple years on my city-x, and had serious hard bag envy for the bags on the K75, especially in the rain parked under no cover. The rain covers on mine were awful. The one "must have" feature on the bike replacing the city-x was locking hard bags. And yes, the journeyman cases leak a bit, but its nothing a $4 trip to Ikea can't remedy. |

My side soft bags are regular ones bought in Brazil, about $100 the pair. Velcro to adjust the distance between them to any bike, double nylon walls with hard plastic in between to add some rigidity and better rain protection. I took of the original labels and put Buell ovals on them. The top one is a standard bag for carry on luggage which I 'slide' on the triple tail as pictured for solo riding and up right on two up. Mostly of the time I have it on the bike as my 'hand gloves' compartment, $30 at luggage store. |
