A woman lost control of her scooter in the parking lot and knocked over my precious '06 Uly. Broke off the right side mirror (and a few other things). What is your advice about replacement mirrors? I seem to recall Aprilia Tuono mirrors are good...what about availability? I also seem to recall that Al at American Sport Bike might stock some... Thanks for any info. --Doc |

Tuono mirrors are good from what I've heard. I run 1125CR mirrors on mine, spaced up 1/2" to clear the handguards. Gave me a place to mount driving lights without drilling, too, because they eliminated separate front turn signals

Ditto on the CR mirrors. I did a write up of my install, but I basically swapped the left and right bases, and spaced them up with 3 washers (hidden by the bases).

If you don't go the 1125 mirror route, the Tuono mirrors are P-n-P simple. They are a nice (cheap) upgrade from the OEM lollipops. I think I paid about $40 for the pair at the Aprilia dealer. He didn't have any in stock so he took them off of a bike on the floor. (Said he would put the ones I "ordered" back on the bike once they came in later that week.) I recall the mirrors fit some/come stock on Piaggio scooters also. |

The same mirrors also come on a few Moto Guzzis. |

+1 on the Tuono mirrors. American Sportbike has them for $35 a pop, but like Jake I got a pair for $40 at the local Guzzi/Aprilia shop a couple years back. If you don't have such a shop near by, Moto International in Seattle is the shop I got them from. They're one of the top Guzzi dealers stateside and ship parts all over. If you give 'em a call I'm sure they can set you up. |

Doc, maybe you have an excessive gravity anomaly in your area as your bikes are now going down sitting still! Ever considered a 3 wheeler? Was the lady & her scoot OK? Just hope she doesn't replace it with a ZX14! (Message edited by ronmold on October 03, 2011) |

Doc, maybe you have an excessive gravity anomaly in your area as your bikes are now going down sitting still! Well, at least this time I wasn't on it. I swear...one more crash and I'm gonna give up this stupid activity. My body just can't take it. But I hate being in cars...so I guess back to the bicycle. --Doc PS. Oh yeah, about the mirrors: there's no more Aprilia dealer in this state, so I'll get them from American Sport Bike. Thanks. The woman is gonna pay for 'em anyway (at least I hope so). |

I too went with the Tuono mirrors. I think they look better and at first thought they vibrated less and I could see out of them better. Upon further review, I think that was just wishful thinking. I still think they look better though. |

Do the heavy bar ends stop or reduce the mirror dancing? |

Ronmold ... mine didn't stop but I do think that the weights helped |

Do the heavy bar ends stop or reduce the mirror dancing? I was never bothered by handlebar vibration, but after I got the HVMP bar-ends the vibration definitely decreased. Mirror dancing reduced as well, I suppose, but not gone. The bar-ends have taken a number of hits in various crashes; the bolts always bend, but they survive. --Doc |

I salvaged the stock mirrors off my '10 KTM450EXC. Look wicked on the XT. Usless below 2800rpm. -p |

I've try many aftermarket mirrors on many bike, and my conclusion is that stock are almost those with the bad look but with the best vision. I'm curious about tuono mirrors |

I put a set of these on mine. they seem to work fine. or if you can find someone that's changing their bmw mirrors out. these are lighter then the stockers and don't seem to vibrate as much. i put the uly stockers on my klr and they work great there. |

I actually found a couple of knock offs out on eBay that were obviously cheaper and I almost ordered a set. I needed some other stuff from A S B however and figured that saving the $20 might not end up being worth it just because of unknown build quality. I probably should have posted a question to if anyone had experience with others but like I said, I was placing an order with A S B anyway. Since those had good confirmed reviews ... I just bought the brand name. |

I'll also chime in on this one (albeit late to posting), but I'd also strongly recommend making the upgrade to the CR turn signals. Would have done this earlier, but one concern is that I already had some fork mounted running lights (MotoLights), so wasn't sure what I'd do with the stock turn signals. . . Remove, leave on the bike, but inactive, add additional lights. . .? ? Since I commute on the bike through some crappy weather and traffic, decided to make the CR upgrade and then convert the stock turn signals into additional "running" lights. Here's a few photos: With the new "running" lights wired. . .
MotoLights, running lights, and turn signal activated. . .
A few notes - - simple conversion, almost "plug and play". 1) Add about 4-6" of wire to each CR mirror/signal with bullet connectors. 2) Swap the CR bases (thanks Andy!), the bases aren't symmetrical, but the mirrors "even out" better if you swap them. 3) You'll need to really crank the mirrors tight (Loctite) to the bases, since they have a "swivel" folding design. 4) For the OE turn signals, I just added a few inches of wire (with bullet connectors) and soldered the running ends to the 12v plug in the dash. 5) The stock Uly mirror mounting compression mounting nuts will secure the CR mirrors, but you'll need to put a cap plug or other device on the tops to clean them up and keep water from filling them. Better yet, buy additional CR mounting bolts and washers from Al and Joanne at American Sport Bike ! 6) Some have done this modification without replacing the flasher unit, since the LEDs draw less power, they blinked for me super-quick, so added the upgraded flasher, also from American Sport Bike. Anyone know the thread specs for the stock mirror holes? |

How are the CR mirrors as compared to stock for actually using as a mirror? They def. make a great turn-signal! I like how the stockers are wide enough that my shoulders/arms don't block rear view |

Ron - Not sure of the original screw specs, think I saw it on Andy's turn signal / mirror modification thread, but can't remember for sure. . . Josh - No great improvement over the OE mirror for seeing behind you, certainly not for the cost. Still strong vibrations at 3K rpm. But: The turn signals are significantly brighter, so for me, still a worthwhile modification. |

So I really like my Tuono's. They are different than stock (obviously) but overall I like them. For looks ... they match the Uly lines and color better than stock. They actually look more stock than the stock ones do. For visibility, it's a little bit of a trade off. I don't perceive that I have better visibility just different. At lower speeds (<40) they seem very stable with little or no vibe. At higher speeds they seem similar to the stock ... to me at least. The max vertical length (top to bottom) of the mirror seems to have a little less real-estate than stock, but not a huge difference. Right to left I think they are slightly wider. Ultimately since they are not circular it gives you more adjustability to point the mirror where you care to look. Overall I like them and am happy about the purchase. |

M10 x 1.25, 25mm long edit: actually, I think that the stockers are around 18mm long. I used 25mm to clear the CR bases and washers needed to spcae them up a hair. (Message edited by andymnelson on November 01, 2011) |

Stock aren't bad for visibility imo so as long as they aren't worse I'd consider them! |
