Did they ever come out with an improved latch kit or is it still the same plastic crap? I think that they croak from plain old fatigue as I've been careful to press the lid closed with my leg before using the latch after snapping one off when the bike was new. Got home by tying the lid shut with my bright yellow jumper cables which must have looked ridiculous. 51,125 miles - I'll get to 100,000 yet if the semis don't squash me against the Jersey barrier like they nearly did this afternoon... |

They did come out with updated plastic crap latches, so I'm not sure what you have on your bike. |

Probably original plastic crap latches, not the updated plastic crap version. I was kind of hoping that the manufacturer would have taken some pride in their product and offered an aluminum replacement instead of saving 37 cents and having people stand there going, "what a piece of crap"! http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/534107.html I cut off the useless tab with the rings on one latch and replaced it with a hinge from Ace Hardware last year. It's worked great and I did the other side recently. It's a little hassle to open up the hinge to fit the pin, and to bend the hinge to just the right angle, but it works. |

I shall try that as a repair - thanks! Shame I ordered a replacement craptacular latch but I could always use it as a spare. Mine was the updated hunka crap, too. |

The latch was improved twice. I suggest you spend the twenty bucks and replace the broken one. If the crappy latch lasted five years, get the latest latch and it'll probably last thirty years. |
