Have 2000 x1, just started having severe vibration at all rpm's. Checked isolators they look ok to me, found a bad plug wire, think it was firing on front intermittent. Less vibes but still there this just started this week. Any ideas? |

Pull the spark plug wire off and look inside the cap with a torch. These are known to rust causing poor contact with spark plug. Solution is to buy new plug wires. |

I put on a set of wires, the front was rusted in the cap and had a open when I did a continuity check. Not sure how long this has been like that so I was going to change plugs today. Not sure if something else is causing vibrations, don't even want to ride it because of it. |

Check your exhaust system for anything loose. |

"...look inside the cap with a torch." I had to look up where you were from to see what you meant. Generally you don't see torch and plug wires mentioned in the same sentence... |

Dagnabbit!!!... I read this and decided to check my wires. I used an oxy-acetylene "torch" and melted my wires. Would have been better off trying to weld with a flashlight. |

replace fuel filter. drain tank and get new gas. replace plugs. check engine and mounting hardware for tightness. check entire exhaust system for loose hardware. if you cant find the problem id get her naked and give the whole thing a check-up. (save that for last) |

I'd guess it's a loose fastener or crack somewhere in the exhaust. Check everything from cylinder heads to tail pipe. |

Just about every time my tubers develope a vibration, it's an exhaust problem. Do you have the updated front muffler mount? One other time I broke the top front motor mount. |

Bought new plugs and wires and going to check everything over after the monsoon leaves. I don't have the new ex front mount, I have the V&H exhaust with mounts I made for front and back a few months ago. I will also check these, wish the rain would stop looks like a car week judging by weather. I will prob do a fuel filter too, the fuel should be ok I fill it at least once a week after my low fuel light comes on with 92-93 octane. |

Had a quick break in clouds, changed plugs, checked over connections(wiring and bolt on) everything still look/feels like it did before this issue started. Decided to check for engine codes, followed manual and watched engine light came on went off didn’t come back. no faults. Decided to verify using jumper wire method, made jumper hooked up got fast lights pause fast lights. no faults. Vibration is still there decided to play around and see if it will happen sitting in neutral. I brought rpms to various points and it vibrates bad up to 3800rpm which is as high as I went. not noticed as much at idle. Put finger on front isolator while revving and it felt ok. I put a new battery in today will that clear codes? ran it after and played around and rechecked codes, none. If it’s in neutral the primary chain is not moving? Still new to some of this, hopefully it’s something stupid. |

"If it’s in neutral the primary chain is not moving?" Primary chain is moving all the time the engine is running. |

id do a cold cylinder check. run it for a few minutes, till it gets good and hot then check if one jug is cooler than the other. I highly recommend doing this with a lazer temp sensor because checking with your hand just feels dumb. This will narrow down the possible issues (valves, intake problems). |

Severe vibration as in a motor mount loose? Have you checked the tie bar up under the tank? I bought a Norton Atlas that shook like crazy until I found that the top motor mount was missing the hardware. It later tried to blow my foot off with a massive kick back but that's another story. @jramsey Thanks could a out of adjustment chain cause it? would it come on quickly? my buell was built in may 2000 not sure if it has the newer primary adjuster. @psykick checked headers at start up and both got hot quickly, I will try and bring a lazer heat sensor home tomorrow. @steveford going to check it now forgot about that tiebar. This came on rather quickly over a few days, I might remove my underseat tray thats the only thing that was added a few days before it happened. |

It only takes a second to pull that inspection cover and check the play in the primary chain. What is it, 5/8" at tightest point cold? I'm doing this by memory. I did have an S1 with a broken adjuster shoe but that bike had a LOT of other issues at the same time. It's a wonder it ran at all. |
