I'm now at week 5 of being without my bike, when I was told 2-3 weeks for the stator replacement and clutch weep fix.

I called last week, and the replacement stator wasn't even received yet at the 'depot'... so the wait continues.

How long have you guys all had to wait for your stator replacements under warranty?

And- when I called, I asked the guy if he could find out if it was an 09 or 08 stator I was getting (I assume its 09), and he said he'd have no way of knowing. CAN a dealer get an 08 stator, or are the only 08 stators out there essentially out of wrecked 08 bikes?

Yes the dealer can get 08 stators.. But most won't...and they certainly won't if you don't ask when you take the bike in.

I've been waiting 4 weeks so far, my dealer couldn't get a stator in a "timely" manner so shipped mine out to be rewound. It's arrived back at the dealership today so I am hoping to get it back on Wednesday.

RT,
Both are outside of the States, I am sure it is more involved than just a phone call for them.

I wonder... if I can request a rewind if its going to take much longer? Would that be much 'safer' than getting another crappy 09 stator put in?

I love my bike, I hate that this is making me contemplate selling it, if I could even find anyone to buy it.

Find a place that will take it in on trade.

That won't likely happen where I am. I only have a Suzuki dealer and a HD dealer where I live unless I want to travel 400kms with it to try to sell it. Sigh. I just really never wanted to sell it.

It is (for me) but to be fair my Dealership is fantastic, they really bend over backwards and that does help.

I offered to call HD (UK or US) but the Service Manager said to leave it with him and he sorted the rewind in no time... I think it helped that he'd have had to wait a while for a stator to be shipped from the US but even so i can't fault the dealership at all.

Thanks everyone.

Ratgin- what dealer to you deal with? I'm dealing with Barrie HD.

I'll be calling again today to request an update. This is beyond frustrating, especially when I know the new stator will burn out eventually too, and not under warranty.

Whippet

Ive been raising hell with HD Canada, Suggest you do so as well.

They tell me since i have a file open with a repair on stator that should it fail within reason out of warranty they would look after me. Now id feel better having that in writing but they have never treated me wrong in the past,

Andrew Bedard is the CS rep. 905-660-3500

His boss is John Whyte is the HD Canada National Service Manager if i recall correctly.

Thanks for the info!

Do you have an exhaust or ECM or anything on your bike or is it bone stock? I'm wondering if, should it fail again, which it will, if HD will blame it on my pipe or ECM (even though the tech in Barrie told me he recommends the ECM, but told me the pipe 'technically' voids my warranty, but that he'd pretend he didn't see it)

Hey Whippet...
Been without my bike for 6 weeks this summer so far. Both times for the clutch weep.
3 weeks each time from delivering bike to pick up. Asked the shop about stators, and they told me it's about 6 weeks on average for them from the time they order until the time they get them.

Call HD USA, they'll forward you to Deeley's. They're the Canadian distributor for HD. As long as you have the part number, they'll probably get you a better idea of ETA.

I'm in the US and it was nearly 4 weeks total before my local dealership got the stator parts it needed. However, apparently there was a two day period where they had to send documentation to HD because my stator had already been replaced under warranty (just a month prior) and needed documentation of the part being bad again before they would approve a replacement under warranty.

Just had my 5th stator put in, dealer got it in 3 days, they have had no problem getting stators or vr for me. I am fortunate, my dealer goes above and beyond to help me.

Had my VR go last winter. Dealer here in Toronto, Canada took over 2 months to replace and do wire harness upgrade. Luckily it was winter so not a huge impact. Then while down in the States for a long ride my stator went. Had to get it trailered back home. Took 4 weeks for Stator replacement. Had the bike back for less then a month and now the voltage system problem is back. There goes the rest of the summer! I was told by the dealer that I was lucky, they had another 1125 that they couldn't figure at what was wrong with it. That's one way to look at it...

Ratgin,
I also talked with Andrew at HD Canada. He told me the same thing about likely helping out if something goes wrong after the warranty is over. I asked about extending my warranty for the down time I've had and he said they just don't do that kind of thing. All we can do is take his word for it, and hope nothing else goes wrong(yeah right) and that when it does they won't laugh and stick you with a huge bill.

Yea it doesnt seem like HD Canada wants to be anywhere near these bikes. No lemon law, no compensation for down time (loaners or extending warranty) and no written promises on what next year will bring

Seems A lot of them in Canada are failing right now.

Ive pretty much made up my mind about what im going to do.

I just got my bike back today. It's been down for one month. I brought my bike to the dealer last Sunday and they had an '09 stator in stock. I was hoping to get the '08 assembly but was told on Friday that it would cost me $975 out of pocket to go with the '08. So.....as the bike is still under warranty, I had them put the '09 back in, will wait for it to fail AGAIN and then send it in to be rewound by Custom Rewind. Or I might just ride the bike until the winter season then take it out and send it off.

I was told there are '08's out there.

Good luck

Wow... this is depressing. 5 stators on one bikes? Seriously? : (

The dealer called me Saturday, left me a message about how they didnt know when the stator would come in, he 'hoped' it would be late this week but couldnt say for sure, but that supposedly as soon as it comes in it will be put in. I especially enjoy how I have to call the dealer 10,000 times to get through, nobody calls ME and tells me anything until I leave them an angry message, which I did prior to him calling me.

God I hope I can find someone clueless enough to buy this bike off of me, and thank god I bought it for half price so I wont lose more than a few thousand bucks on it.

It really does help if you have a good dealer - which I can see you don't.

I feel for you, I'm disappointed that my bike's been in for 5 weeks now but my dealer's been keeping me up to date without my chasing and he arranged for HD to pay for the stator rewind so I can't fault the dealership.

Latest update was that the stator arrived back at the dealership on Friday and it should be in the workshop right about.....now!

Hopefully I'll get it back midweek as I'm off to a bike rally on Thursday and it'll be a week long "should've bought Japanese" bitching session from drunk buddies if I don't take the Buell (LOL)

Jules

Its not the dealers. Their hands are tied by the sole importer for Canada,

They will not stock any parts for a product line no longer in business and the result is a minimum 2 week wait on any parts needed,

If the buell is your only ride it hurts. Short riding season means your bike sits in shop longer then you ride it ina year,

mines been down 6 weeks this year and rear shock is done. None in Canada so I wont take it in until i sell it or warranty about to expire in sept/oct,

that way they can sit on it for the weeks it waits for parts as riding season is almost over.

The clutch weep you can resolve yorself with a $99 part from Erik Buell Racing... why be potentially down for 2 months when you could buy that and keep it safely in a box "just in case"
