Looks like I gotta buy a tool tomorrow so I can finish pulling the trans out of the M2. Anyone know offhand what size that big honkin' nut is that holds the front belt pulley onto the mainshaft? If nobody posts up, I can just take the lockplate with me to Lowe's and use it as a sizing gauge... |

The manual says you have to take the pulley off to pull the tranny. You DON'T have to. The tranny slides right out of the left side of the bike. The pulley stays put on the right side. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I didn't do it and it wasn't a problem. Saved a bunch of time and tool searching. |

On the other side of the engine case from the pulley is the final drive gear. The tranny will come out and leave the final drive gear if you don't want to remove the pulley and you aren't changing the final drive gear pair. So it depend on the project. If you are repairing and replacing, say, second gear, then you don't need to remove the pulley. If you are putting in a new or different transmission, you should have a matched pair of final drive gears and so do need to remove the pulley. |

OK, so I pulled the five bolts out of the primary side, that hold the trapdoor to the case. The trans should come out now? |

duh. I need to stop going out to the garage after 15 hour days in the sun at work. Jiggle. Pull. Out it came, no messing with the pulley nut. Now, to diagnose... |
