I dropped the bike off at the dealership for a stator replacement... I've asked for an 08 stator/rotor to be fitted (mine is an 09). I've told the dealer that if HD won't do that then they I'll refuse to accept the repair and reject the bike and then just take the legal route, the sales of goods act in the UK is a pretty persuasive argument and there's a reasonable chance that I'd get a full refund on the price paid for the bike less a nominal amount for depreciation. Having said that, that's just an idle threat really as there's no way I'm actually going to do that as I like the bike far too much to let it go over something this minor...but there's no reason to tell HD that. I also offered to pay for the 08 rotor if needed.... Unfortunately at the time I hadn't checked out the price, figuring it couldn't possibly be more than $200-$300 dollars. Well tonight I checked out the price online for part number Y0533.1AM and nearly fell off my chair! £800 ($1200)!! How on earth can they justify that? So I guess I'm going back to the dealership to retract that offer, I can get the stator rewound 8 times for that! I've seen motors on ebay for around that figure, that's just astonishing. OK I know I should've checked the price out before making the offer but seriously?!? As you might be able to tell I am amazed at the price! |

HD OEM parts are outrageous. For the same $300 I'd pay to wait 6 weeks on that new cluster I need for the race bike, I could buy an aftermarket piece that has all kinds of sophisticated gadgets and a place to put my unit and get a hoover at the end of the track day. F.U.H.D. 'Nuff said. |

It is really weird, some HD parts have a great price, some have a terrible price. For example the stock HD battery isn't terribly priced compared to aftermarket lead batteries, and it will fit with no issues unlike many aftermarket batteries. But then various screws and fasteners are $7 each! |

Yes, some things cost more than we THINK they should. Some stuff is much cheaper than we assume it would be. It all evens out. (Message edited by hybridmomentspass on July 06, 2011) |
