I need some advice I think the bank angle sensor is going bad, How does one check for sure? When flicking the bike from side to side it cuts out and pops on occasions. I checked the bike (99 X1) for any wires that have rubbed. I Changed the ignition switch the wires out of the switch were starting to discolor. Thanks for any advice. |

I'm not sure about a 99 but the only bank angle sensor my 97 S1 has is when the kickstand and shifter/peg drags the ground. Keeps on rockin' when she touches down. |

You can diagnose it without Ecmspy and a cable or the Hd scanalizer tool. You can also disable it using Ecmspy and see if that was really the problem. It could be shorting out. it is only supposed to work at or above 55 degree lean angle then the Ecm shuts off ignition and fuel systems. If it is bad there should be a code 44 in the Ecm memory. Disconnect the sensor conector and measure the voltage on the lt gn/gy wire and the bk wire. the voltage should be 4.0-6.0 volts. if it is 11-13 volts there is a short. The manual also says if there is not ferrous material within .25 in. of the sides face or top of bank angle sensor replace it. its a magnetic apparently?? It should totally shut the bike down and you would have to restart it. You might have a different sensor going out but BAS is easy and is under the tail on the left side but it is easy to miss if looking for it from different sides of the bike. |

I have posted this before but for my M2's, to disable the Bank Angle Sensor, unplug sensor and jumper A&B connector's. Do not jumper A&C because you will blow the ign. fuse. As for B&C, jumper them and let me know what happens. Let us know what you find out. |

OH I also thought bank angle sensors were only on 01-02 models. At least M2's were. |

You can also just unplug the connector from the sensor and the bike will run fine, but it will have an engine code and light will stay on until reconnected. |

Thanks fellas! I think I will try removing the the connector first, and go from there. Any one in the Milwaukee area with Ecmspy? |

Ted: Find the diagnostic plug located under the headlight. It is almost square with a rubber cap over it. With the connector lock pointing up, jumper the two right side pins in the connector. This will get you into diagnostic mode. Make sure your kill switch is in the on position and turn the ignition key switch to ignition. You'll be able to read out the Trouble Codes via the CEL light. Six flashes, pause, then first number, pause, then second number. Write all the numbers down. When you see the same sequence, you can end the test. Don't forget to un-jumper the connector. If you don't have a Service Manual, post what you get and we'll be able to tell you what sensors etc may be giving you headaches. |

You can own a Buell with out a service manual?!? I bought service manual a few weeks after buying the bike new when the owners manual never offered any help other than take it to the dealer. |

I found the issue, I think, I found a rubbed wire on the rear rocker box. There are a lot of wires to check! |
