Finally got off my arse and ordered new shoes for the S1W. It's been all OVER the road for about a season now, and I was starting to see cords on the rear tire in the last couple days. Running D208 Dunlops that were...lessee...about five years old now. No wonder. Put on a set (front and rear) of the new Pilot Road 3's. Stock size, 120 front, 170 rear. Um....WOW. I have PR2's on my S2, have had for about 5k miles and they look brand new tread-wise. My parts guy said the 3's were more available than the 2's in the 170 rear...so I tried 'em. GLAD I DID. Still scuffing them in, only have about 30 miles on them (and 15 were done with the flywheel for a 2.2 turbo dodge in my slingbag - HEAVY, but I had to get it home from the machine shop), but my chicken strips are already under an inch. The bike is totally transformed. Turn-in is quicker, lean angles are more progressive, and...they STICK. I know a lot of that is just "new tire"...but with as many miles as I have on the PR2's, just as much of it is "GOOD tire". Can't wait till I get the $ together to put a set on the M2L (a 3k mile '01 with its OEM D207s - ACK!). |

Back in the day I learned to do stoppies on six year old Dunlop D204's...didn't know any better. Tires sure have come a long way. I miss the new tire feel. The last couple sets of tires have been slightly used and were Florida Flat-Spotted. |

five years old! I go thru a set each year on my GPz I have the Pilots and love them. I was running Bridgestone Batax on my Gpz and would get high speed whobbles, when I switched to the Michelin's it all went away. My X1 has the Michelins too. |

any of you guys used metzler tires? I've only had the M3's on my 02-M2L and need to replace soon - if the pr3 is better ...I'll happily get those. metzler-m3 v pr3? |

Well, with 5 Buells in the garage some of them rack miles more slowly than others the S2 has 27k; the 06 Uly has 23k and typically gets at least one rear tire a season. S1W right around 7k. I've parked the CR for a bit in the name of self-preservation, at 3k, and the M2L she never rode that I inherited is right around 5k. Can you tell I like saddlebags? Lol |

Five Bikes! you are my hero! I had three at one time. 1976 Yamaha RD400 I restored 1975 Yamaha XS650 I restored into a Cafe racer. 1973 Kawasaki H1 (not running) I still have my trusty 1996 Kawasaki GPz1100. I sold both of my Yamaha's and the H1 to buy my Buell, and fund the work needed to get it back on the road. I am going to start to look for a S1 that needs work as a future winter project. |
